The NASCAR Sprint Cup series rolls into Phoenix for the Kobalt Tools 500 on November 14th with just two races remaining in the 2010 NASCAR Chase. Jimmie Johnson arrives in Phoenix as the favorite according to the Las Vegas Hilton Superbook at 7-2.
Johnson also arrives with a different pit crew. Last weekend at Texas Motor Speedway the No.48 Lowe’s Chevy team had an uncharacteristic meltdown on pit road, making two mistakes. Chad Knaus made an unprecedented decision and benched the entire team, replacing them with Jeff Gordon’s No. 24 Dupont pit crew. They will now remain on the Lowe’s team as the pit crew for the remainder of the season. Translation: the four tie championship has lost their edge and this decision may lose their championship.
Three Favorites Worth a Possible Bet at NASCAR Sprint Cup Kobalt Tools 500
Kyle Busch No. 18 4-1
Phoenix International Raceway is a track Kyle Busch has raced well on since entering NASCAR racing and he will spend all weekend learning the ins and outs of the track as he races all three of the NASCAR series races. Don’t put it past Busch to race the Southwest series race either.
Denny Hamlin No. 11 9-2
Denny Hamlin suffered through his repaired ACL injury in the first visit to Phoenix for the night race in April. Now he is healthy and he can put together a good finish on the flat track. Martinsville and Louden are two other flat tracks that Hamlin has done well on. Hamlin has three top fives in his five most recent starts and in April he was never factor after a crash.
Tony Stewart No. 14 12-1
Ryan Newman, Tony Stewart’s teammate won the April race and now Stewart has nothing left to race for but wins. Stewart has run in every form of car around the Phoenix mile and this could be his best chance to score one last victory in the final two races.
Other notables with short odds to win Kobalt Tools 500: Kevin Harvick 12-1, Jeff Gordon 15-1, Kurt Busch 15-1, Mark Martin 15-1, Clint Bowyer 18-1 and Jimmie Johnson 7-2.
Three Middle of the Pack Drivers Worth a Look in NASCAR Sprint Cup Kobalt Tools 500
Carl Edwards No.99 20-1
The flat half mile at Phoenix has been decent for Carl Edwards with four top fives but the Roush Fenway team has nothing to lose and just as Matt Kenseth was bouncing off walls for the win at Texas, Edwards will be running all out for the checkered flag this Sunday.
Greg Biffle No.16 20-1
Greg Biffle ran up front at Texas and looked like a lock to win until engine issues knocked him out. Now on the Phoenix flat mile for the Kobalt Tools 500, Biffle has another chance to run flat out and get the win. Look for Biffle to once again run at the front and have a chance to win this weekend.
Other notables with medium odds to win Kobalt Tools 500: Joey Logano 20-1, Jeff Burton 25-1, Matt Kenseth 25-1, Juan Montoya 25-1, Jamie McMurray 30-1.
Best Long Shot to Win to Win NASCAR Sprint Cup Kobalt Tools 500
Ryan Newman No.39 35-1
Ryan Newman is looking for the sweep this weekend and he is still at 35-1 to win the Kobalt Tools 500 in Phoenix. Newman is also a driver that has run Phoenix all his life in different race cars. Look for Newman to qualify well and give a good bang for the buck at 35-1.
Other notable long shots to win the NASCAR Sprint Cup Kobalt Tools 500: Kasey Kahne 40-1, Martin Truex Jr 40-1, Dale Earnhardt Jr 60-1, David Reutimann 60-1 and AJ Allmendinger 75-1.
