Some people are born with dry hair. Others develop dry hair as they get older. Some people, like me, live their younger lives with oily hair then discover it’s getting dry as they get older. That’s why, most people eventually will find themselves needing a good natural homemade remedy for dry hair, if they want supple, soft and shiny hair. If you’re one of those people suffering from dry hair, try a few of these natural homemade dry hair treatments and your hair will soon be shiny and healthy looking again.
Deep Conditioning With Mayonnaise – One of the best and cheapest homemade natural remedies for treating dry hair is to deep condition your hair. Slather mayonnaise onto your hair (buy the cheapest brand you can find), making sure each strand is covered, then cover your hair with a toweling hair cap. Leave on overnight and wash out the mayonnaise thoroughly in the morning. You may find you have a bit of a vinegary smell on your hair at first, but it will evaporate within half an hour, and your dry hair will be left moist, supple and shiny.
Hot Olive Oil – Olive oil is incredible for dry hair, as it treats split ends and deep conditions dry hair. Pour half a cup of olive oil into a bowl and warm in the microwave until the oil is warm (not hot, as it will burn your scalp). Apply the oil to your hair using a pastry brush or hair color brush, making sure each strand of hair is covered.
Put a plastic bag over your hair and tie into a knot at the front of your head. Use a blowdryer over your head to warm the oil again for a few minutes, then leave on your hair for 30 minutes. Wash off and style as usual. Your hair will be shiny and in tip top condition. Repeat once a week.
Egg Yolks and Olive Oil – Another wonderful natural homemade remedy for dry hair is egg yolks and olive oil. Mix two eggs together with half a cup of olive oil. Brush onto your hair and cover with a plastic cap or bag. Leave on your hair for an hour, then shampoo off. The egg yolks will condition your dry hair superbly and leave it lovely and shiny.
Banana and Papaya Hair Conditioner – In Thailand, where I live, many Thai girls use fresh fruit to deep condition their hair. One of my favorite fruit hair conditioners for dry hair is a banana and papaya mixed together. Put a large banana, half a papaya and a little bit of full-fat yoghurt in a blender and blend until the mix is a thick cream. Put on hair and work through until every strand is covered. Leave on for an hour, then wash off and leave your hair to dry naturally.
You can even eat this mixture as, because it’s so nutritious, it will also give your dry hair a nice boost.
While you cannot repair the split ends dry hair causes (although some hairdressers and beauty products sellers will tell you you can, you can’t, it’s not possible), you can make the split ends look less noticeable and make your dry hair shiny and strong with any of these natural homemade remedies.
