Cold and Flu season has already seemed to arrive for many around the country. Over the past few years it seems that many medicines have been found to be unsafe. What many people don’t realize is that there are plenty of natural cold remedies that will help children to get over colds. Below you will find several ways to naturally help your child when they have a cold. Of course their is really no way to speed up cold recovery, but there are several things that you can do to help your child feel more relaxed and comfortable. These ideas and suggestions are for children who are over the age of five. Check with your child’s doctor before trying any natural home remedies for your children.
Honey really does sooth
As any doctor will tell you, infants and toddlers should not be given honey. For older children you can give them one tablespoon of honey, to help sooth their sore throat and help with coughing. In my experience I have found it best to use all natural honey.
Tea works well
One thing that my kids really enjoy drinking when they have a cold is a nice warm cup of tea. It helps them to feel more relaxed, and can help with the cold symptoms as well. There are many different types of teas on the market and green tea seems to work best for my family. Try some of the different types of green tea that are currently available. It can also help to add a little bit of lemon and lime to your child’s tea. A teaspoon of ginger in a cup of hot tea has also helped when someone in our household had a really bad cold. Another tip that may help is a bit of turmeric powder in a warm glass of tea. Just mix in a teaspoon and have your child drink up. They may not like the taste too much but it may help to make them feel better.
The secret is in the soup
Chicken soup has always been a favorite natural remedy for many families, but there are other soups that can also help to sooth some of those symptoms. Garlic and onion soup are just as good as chicken soup. No only does it taste really good but it really helps to clear up the sinuses as well.
Rest, Love, and Liquids
When it comes to sick children, there are really three main ingredients that will really help to make al the difference. First is that they will need plenty of rest. This will give the body a chance to fight off the germs. Next comes the liquids. They will need plenty of fluids to flush the cold out of their system and really to make them feel so much better. Last but certainly not least is the love. As long as the child has a loving parent around to love and care for them, they will have no problem feeling much better in the long run.
