Rock legend Neil Young is partnering with producer extraordinaire Daniel Lanois on a new solo record. Young is one of rock’s more unique voices and is working completely on his own without the help of a backing band for his upcoming project. This is a new foray for Young who has been known to stretch his creative boundaries from time to time. The album is a very stripped down approach for Young who, probably more than any other musician out there, can command the attention of his audiance with just his voice and guitar.
“Le Noise” is produced by Canadian musician/producer Daniel Lanios, who is no stranger to brushing shoulders with mega talent. He has produced Bob Dylan, U2, Peter Gabriel, and Emmylou Harris to name a few. This should be an interesting pairing. Lanois is known for his ability to create a mood that sets the tone for most of the artists he works with. His layered sonics have been the backbone to the U2 sound for years. Now he is coupled with one of rock and roll’s greatest solo acts. “Le Noise” was recorded over the last six months in Lanois’ Los Angeles mansion, which includes a high tech recording studio suited to Lanois’ love of atmosphere. Young has been premiering some of the material on his “Twisted Road” solo tour this summer.
Young’s songwriting talents are legendary, his hits numerous, and his ability to sustain a high quality of material is well documented. Look for this record to be a very unique step for Young in his long musical journey that has been filled with risks and new directions, hard rock and acoustics, superstar pairings, and solo adventures.
