A new coffee shop, audaciously called WTF at 49 Willoughby avenue, has opened up for business to support Fort Greeners in their morning quest for what the owner Asio Highsmith says is “your morning cocktail. Every morning.”
And we’re not just talking about a Cup o’ Joe or anything like that.
With multiple different specialty brew methods, including French press, ceramic pourover, and what Liz Clayton from Serious Eats describes as “super slow, hyper intense ‘Kyoto’ style drip cold coffee,” to name just a few, these guys go way beyond what is commonly referred to as “coffee.”
Recently we waxed absurdly enthusiastic about another coffee shop opening up in Park Slope that serves French press, because French press coffee is so much better than regular drip, and most Americans have no idea. The average American’s idea of a special cup of coffee is a Mocha from Starbucks.
But the guys at WTF obviously know what coffee is capable of being, and are skilled enough, as well as patient enough, to coax the bean into its more exquisite expressions.
We haven’t gotten the chance to try a special brew from WTF yet, but rest assured we will be in there very soon.
Oh, and did we mention the owner, Asio, is also the owner of the Pedigree shoe store next door to WTF? It makes absolutely no sense to us either, but hey, we certainly aren’t going to complain.
