Tom Brady will lead his New England Patriots into the Detroit Lions Ford Field looking to ruin their Thanksgiving on November 25th. The New England Patriots are working out of their element with this Thanksgiving Day game but it does not look like it will hurt them much. Brady is quietly putting together an AFC East title run in a division that is a two team race between the Patriots and the New York Jets.
New England Patriots Offense vs Detroit Lions Defense
Tom Brady can make Ron Gronkowski, the New England Patriots second tight end, look better than Randy Moss. That is all anyone needs to know about the future NFL Hall of Fame quarterback. Brady is tremendous when he is challenged. He takes it to another level and brings home a win with little offensive fire power.
Brady has a weak running game featuring Ben Jarvis Green-Ellis and his best receiver Wes Welker is double covered across the middle every game. The best aspect of the New England Patriots passing game is Brady hitting the third or fourth option. He is the best check down quarterback in the NFL.
The most improved defense in the NFL is the Detroit Lions. Their front defensive line has a possible rookie of the year candidate in Ndamukong Suh and a talented veteran, Kyle Vanden Bosch. The secondary is the weakness of the Detroit Lions.
On the edges this young Detroit Lions team is vulnerable. Despite their vulnerability, the numbers are decent for the Detroit Lions in the pass defense department. They are only yielding 230 yards per game through the air. The New England Patriots offense has the edge over the Detroit Lions defense.
Detroit Lions Offense vs New England Patriots Defense
It doesn’t matter who the quarterback is for the Detroit Lions. Calvin Johnson will be the man to catch on the out route in any Detroit Lions game. Johnson is a quarterbacks best friend and he will be targeted often in this game against an average New England Patriots defense.
Look for Johnson to stretch the field and for Nate Burleson and tight end Brandon Pettigrew to get many catches over the middle. The running game of the Detroit Lions has been below average due to injuries to Kevin Smith and Jahvid Best.
The New England Patriots defense is young and inconsistent to this point of the NFL season. They have had some big moments, including their abuse of Ben Roethlisberger and the Pittsburgh Steelers offense. Patrick Chung has played a major role on special teams and defense on this team and is reminding many of Teddy Bruschi. The New England Patriots defense has the edge over the Detroit Lions offense.
