The first posthumous album of all new Michael Jackson songs will arrive in stores on December 14.
“Michael” is billed as “newly completed” tracks from The King of Pop. The initial single, “Breaking News”, was recorded in New Jersey during 2007. Jackson’s record label, Sony Music, hasn’t announced any of the other “Michael” song titles yet, or who produced the recordings. The album is believed to include Jackson collaborations with Akon and Black Eyed Peas frontman will.i.am.
The album’s cover was created by artist Kadir Nelson. A montage of images from throughout Jackson’s career are pictured, including the “Off The Wall”, “Bad”, and”Dangerous” album covers, and scenes from the “Beat It”, “Billie Jean”, and “Smooth Criminal” videos.
This will be Jackson’s first album of new music since 2001’s “Invincible”. The soundtrack to last year’s “This Is It” documentary featured the previously unreleased title track, co-written by Jackson and Paul Anka. That song was finished by Jackson’s brothers following his death.
The “Michael” album is part of the 10-project, seven year deal the Jackson estate signed with Sony Music in March 2010. The accord is potentially worth up to 250 million dollars for the estate. Last month, Forbes magazine reported Jackson’s posthumous gross earnings from his albums, DVD’s, share of the Sony/ATV music publishing catalog (including The Beatles hits), and “This Is It” at 275 million dollars.
Two days ago, a new Cirque Du Soleil Jackson themed show was announced to run from October 2011 to June 2012. The career spanning “Michael Jackson’s Vision” DVD box set will be released later this month, as will the “Michael Jackson The Experience” video game.
