A New Year means a new beginning. People promise themselves to stick to the “two liters of water a day” rule, eat better, deal with a bad habit of theirs or just be better people. Among the typical resolutions that I will make and will most likely not keep ( sweat at the gym every day and eat load of acai berries, broccoli and other super foods), I will make sure to include one that I will in fact stick to. Fashion is important in a women’s life.
It not only shows if a woman has a sense of style but also makes a woman feel more confident and better about herself. However, we do make mistakes that later we can’t believe that we made. At the moment I can think of three things that I would like to change about the way I dress, so these are my three fashion resolutions for 2011.
Black is not the only color in the universe. Although it is the most practical color to wear because of its slimming effect and because of the fact that stains are not as easily seen on black, we have other colors in the spectrum. It is hard to shift from dressing in black to wearing bright colors, because colors like yellow, red, white seem to attract more attention, as well as stain more easily, especially if it is necessary to travel by bus or train every day. My approach to wearing more color will be to simply take little steps. A bright colored scarf, a belt or a bag could be a nice contrast to a dark-colored outfit. Maybe when the summer comes, a colorful summer dress will find its way to my closet. Fashion is unpredictable.
There are other pieces of clothing besides pants and jeans, but I usually forget this fact or maybe just choose not to acknowledge it. I could not imagine not having jeans or pants in my closet. It is so easy to pair jeans with a shirt, sweater and a good pair of shoes. Jeans and pants can be worn to work, school, while hanging out with friends, and this makes jeans and pants the most perfect pieces of clothing. However, no women should forget that dresses and skirts exist as well. This is my second fashion resolution- to try and incorporate them into my wardrobe. In the summer time, they are more practical than jeans anyway, and with so many choices of leggings for sale, there is no excuse to not wear skirts and dresses during the colder months.
Sweat pants are great. They feel nice and comfortable while lounging around at home, usually don’t cost a fortune and come in many fun colors. However, they do not belong on the streets! This is my third and final resolution – no sweat pants outside the perimeters of my house. I am always tempted to run to the store with my sweat pants stuffed into leather boots, or run errands in the city. I personally do not think that sweat pants look good paired with boots, purses or jackets. Unless I am in the gym or my home, the sweat pants should not be on.
