Eli Manning is coming into his own as a quarterback for the New York Giants and his brother Peyton Manning is already an NFL Hall of Famer in waiting. The two will go head to head September 19th and the winner will have bragging rights in the Manning household.
The first game for Eli Manning was a solid performance against a decent Carolina Panthers team. Manning threw for 262 yards and three touchdowns. The black cloud for Eli Manning was the three interceptions thrown during the game. Overall Manning’s performance was typical Eli, run the game deliberately and get down field. The best aspect of the New York Giants first NFL game was the defense and the defensive pass rush.
The New York Giants will need a similar performance against Peyton Manning. Peyton Manning’s first week was a statistical success but his inability to score early led to the Indianapolis Colts losing to AFC Division rival the Houston Texans. Manning threw for 433 yards and three touchdowns.
Passing Attack of Eli or Peyton Manning Will Play Big Role in This Week Two Game
Eli Manning may have the softer defense to play against in this match up. The Indianapolis Colts pass defense only allowed 107 yards to Matt Schaub in Week One but they were get pounded on the ground by Arian Foster for 231 yards rushing. Eli Manning was focused on Hakeem Nicks for his touchdown passes but only threw one more pass to Nicks. Manning also threw to Mario Manningham four times for 85 yards. Look for Eli Manning to use his possession receivers in this game and check down to tight ends and running backs.
Peyton Manning will face plenty of pressure from the New York Giants front line and he will be forced into some short check down passes also. Manning is tough to gauge when he faces an aggressive defense. Sometimes Manning rises to the occasion against a blitzing team and sometimes he turns to mush. It will be interesting to see how he handles the Giants in this game. Passing attack edge goes to the home team Indianapolis Colts.
Running Games of Indianapolis Colts & New York Giants Will Play into Decision
The Indianapolis Colts running game has has been anemic at best and they need to get Joesph Addai on track at the start of the season to give Peyton Manning more play action situations. Addai is decent running back but he will never be a top 20 running back in the NFL. The Indianapolis Colts and Peyton Manning may give Addai a larger number of carries in the first half of this game.
Ahmad Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs are fighting for time in the New York Giants back field. It is apparent that Brandon Jacobs is the number two running back at the moment but this could be a plan to get more carries out of Jacobs later in the season and throughout the NFL Playoffs. The one two punch of Jacobs and Bradshaw will be a potent combination in this game. Running game edge goes to the New York Giants.
New York Giants vs Indianapolis Colts -7: Pick Against the Spread & Final Thought
The Las Vegas Hilton Superbook posted the Indianapolis Colts a touchdown favorite and with the Colts losing their first game of the NFL season this number may creep up a little bit. Peyton Manning will be looking to get his offense on track from the first snap of the game after his team fell behind in NFL Week One and lost.
Manning and the Indianapolis Colts may have Anthony Gonzalez back for this game giving him another weapon and his receivers dropped plenty of passes. The pressure from the New York Giants could play a part in this game and a seven point spread can be tough number. Take the Indianapolis Colts -7 and cross those fingers.
