The New York Giants head to the Minneapolis Metrodome to take on Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings December 12th. Brett Favre is expected to take the field in this game but against a team of quarterback killers like the New York Giants he may not last long. Tavaris Jackson was a decent replacement last weekend but he did picked off three times.
Minnesota Vikings Offense vs New York Giants Defense
Adrian Peterson should be the focal point of this offense as he was last weekend when the Minnesota Vikings put up 31 points on the Buffalo Bills. With Brett Favre injured coming into this game it will be interesting to see how far he goes against this destructive defensive line of the New York Giants. Sidney Rice made himself known for the first time this season, hauling in two touchdown passes but this weekend may see Percy Harvin on the sideline once again.
Justin Tuck and Osi Umenyiora have been inconsistent this season for the New York Giants but when they are on there is no better defensive front line. The corners and pass defense have holding opponents to less than 190 yards per game which is one of the best in the NFL. Against the run the New York Giants are giving up over 100 yards per game but they have shut down some of the better runners this season. The New York Giants defense has the edge over the Minnesota Vikings offense.
Minnesota Vikings Defense vs New York Giants Offense
Another disappointment for the Minnesota Vikings has been their defense. Jared Allen and his defensive line mates have not penetrated opposing offensive lines as they did in the 2009 NFL season. On the edges the Minnesota Vikings are giving up just 215 yards per game to opposing quarterbacks and their run defense has been solid, giving up just 92 yards per game on the ground.
Eli Manning and the New York Giants have dealt with plenty of adversity this season. Manning and Hakeem Nicks were getting a rhythm until Nicks went out for three weeks to injury but Manning compensated as his running backs picked up the slack. The New York Giants offense is averaging almost 140 yards per game on the ground and Brandon Jacobs has picked up steam and respect as the season has moved forward. The New York Giants offense has the edge over the Minnesota Vikings defense.
