Reports of the investigation of another sports icon for sexual improprieties is reportedly underway. This time it’s Brett Favre, who many look upon as the idealistic “man from down home.”
The article, “NFL Looking into Favre Allegations,” reported a spokesperson for the National Football League confirmed they were investigating allegations Minnesota quarterback Brett Favre sent improper photos and text messages to Jenn Sterger, a game hostess for the New York Jets in 2008. In 2008, Favre was quarterback for the Jets.
The website Deadspin posted a video that had below-the-waist pictures sent to Sterger of a man alleged as Favre. In addition, Deadspin asserted Favre contacted Sterger on her MySpace account and left racy voice mails. Deadspin posted a video with the voicemails and lewd photos sent to her cell phone.
In a separate incident, Favre allegedly made improper advances to two part-time massage therapists employed by the Jets during training camp in 2008. Supposedly, Favre and one of the therapists traded phone numbers, and the other stated he sent distasteful text messages inviting them to his hotel room.
In response to the allegations, Favre only said that he had a football game to prepare for and had no other comments. His agent did not return messages sent to him about the incidents, and the Vikings deferred all statements, because they were cooperating with the investigation by the NFL. In addition, the Jets also deferred comment because of their cooperation with the NFL.
Sterger’s website lists her as a television hostess, a model, actress and writer. While with the Jets she made announcements to the crowd, asked trivia questions and introduced the dance team. Her agent reported she would had no comments at this time, but that she was not responsible for releasing any facts or suppositions to Deadspin.
Deadspin reported they paid for the photos, but would not release the name of the source. They also stated they were satisfied the allegations were true, and would be posting more information concerning them.
Brett Favre and his wife Deanna have been married for fourteen years, and Favre is a grandfather.
If the allegations are true, Favre may be fined, or even suspended by the National Football League.
