The NFL Power Rankings Week 7 have seen some interesting changes since last week, including those developed from the game between the Tennessee Titans and the Jacksonville Jaguars. Also, we take a look at the decline of the Saints (who still hold a good spot), the rise of the Steelers, and other notable and debate-worthy dips and rises for the NFL, as well as the factors which altered the ranks.
Joel Thorman with SB Nation believes the Chiefs’ ranking of 10 in the NFL Power Rankings this week is too high, noting that they just came off of two losses (which, regardless of how close the games were, were still losses, he adds).
The Miami Dolphins’ game at Green Bay was “tough,” and their ranking last week was 20th (as reported by Pete Prisco at CBS Sports– see the table chart).
Back in 2009, the Saints were leading the league with 31.9 points per game, but their recent stats are way off of that at 19.8. Last week, they were listed as 18th at scoring. Taking the ball away was the key to Reggie Bush’s success with the Saints, said Gregg Williams, the team’s defensive coordinator. Prisco adds that Drew Brees has the high numbers, but is turning the ball over. Last season, his yards-per-attempt were at 8.5, but have since dropped to 7.1. New Orleans was the only team last season to rank in the top 10 for rushing and passing. The Saints now place fifth on this week’s rankings.
Last week, the Pittsburgh Steelers were ranked third (Prisco’s table puts them at fourth), but now the NFL Power Rankings Week 7 put them at #1, notes Debbie Turner with Only Kent. Dropping since last week are the Chicago Bears, who were #5 (Prisco’s table said seventh) but now place at #11 after losing to the Seahawks. Meanwhile, the Buffalo Bills are still down at #32 (Prisco concurs), and face a game against the Ravens this week which could prove challenging.
With the Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Tennessee Titans on Monday Night Football, we saw a huge victory for the Titans over the Jaguars– 30 to 3– which ranks the Titans at #7, reported Turner.
