The NFL power rankings Week 7 continue to be crowded. Of course, the NFL power rankings Week 7 are crowded by mediocrity, for the most part. After the latest carnage this weekend, there are now only three teams with just one loss in the whole league. Of course, this finally does make it easier to fill in the top spots, at the least. And in most cases, the AFC remains in total control over the NFC.
The NFC picture got even more muddled this week when Atlanta, Chicago and Tampa Bay all lost. This means that every single NFC team has two losses or more, with no powerhouses to speak of. With that, it is now even clearer that the AFC has the best teams around so far.
Therefore, the rankings have some combination of the Jets, Steelers, Patriots, Ravens -and perhaps the Colts – leading the way. The Steelers and Patriots made the best statements, after Pittsburgh won easily with Ben Roethlisberger back, and after New England came back to beat Baltimore. Since the Ravens fell in overtime, they are unlikely to drop too much.
However, the team with the best record in football is the Jets, with a 5-1 record. Although they may now be No. 1, the Jets were lucky to get out of Denver with a win. But since they have a five-game winning streak, it qualifies as sheer dominance this season.
The Colts are also still among the AFC elite, although they shot themselves frequently against Washington. As for last year’s other struggling Super Bowl team, the Saints shot themselves back up the ranks by clobbering the Buccaneers, yet they may not be back in form just yet.
Teams like the Giants and Eagles are climbing up, but they are just as capable of going on downslides again. The Packers are now nowhere near the top of the power rankings, although they are hardly as down as the Cowboys. Meanwhile, the Falcons and Bears proved themselves to be overrated for the moment.
The picture throughout the league is still unclear, as parity continues to reign. Yet if mediocrity is going to be held back eventually, it seems the AFC elite is more likely to do it than the NFC. Judging by the Week 7 rankings, it appears the AFC elite is holding a monopoly in the NFL elite as well.
Here is what the top 12 of the NFL power rankings Week 7 may look like, although the order is as fragile as ever.
1. Jets: 5-1
2. Steelers: 4-1
3. Patriots: 4-1
4. Ravens: 4-1
5. Saints: 4-2
6. Colts: 4-2
7. Giants: 4-2
8. Eagles: 4-2
9. Titans: 4-2
10. Falcons: 4-2
11. Bears: 4-2
12. Texans: 4-2
