The NFL power rankings Week 8 look fairly uncertain. But this makes the NFL power rankings for Week 8 no different than most others this season. However, in the last few weeks, it seemed safe to put the AFC powers ahead of the struggling NFC elite. Yet on Sunday, even the AFC elite were lucky to get out alive, which might have knocked their standing down a bit. Still, they remain in control of the NFL power rankings Week 8, since few teams from the NFC did much better.
The Jets did not play this Sunday, but this also meant that they did not struggle. The Steelers, Patriots and Ravens had a chance to impress, and all three of them got out with victories. However, all three of them could have easily gotten out with a loss.
In the NFL power rankings Week 8, the Steelers, Ravens and Patriots are all likely to remain in the top 5. However, part of that is by default, after the Steelers needed inconclusive replay to beat the Dolphins, the Ravens needed overtime to beat the winless Bills, and the Patriots nearly blew a 20 point lead to the Chargers.
But it wasn’t like the NFC elite did much better on Sunday. The Saints took another tumble with a loss to the Browns, while the Bears and Eagles suffered ugly losses, and the Packers barely survived a more banged up than usual Brett Favre. Only the Giants made an impressive statement against the Cowboys, although even that doesn’t look as good these days.
While AFC teams continue to lead the NFL power rankings for Week 8, the NFC is still very much in flux. For now, it appears the Giants will be the highest ranked NFC team, with the Falcons, Buccaneers and Seahawks are the only other two loss teams in the conference.
The Jets and Colts may have looked the best, because they didn’t play on the weekend. But both of those teams will get home tests shortly, as the Jets take on the Packers, and the Colts host the Texans in a Monday night rematch.
The NFL power rankings Week 8 mark the near halfway point of the season. By the time every team has played eight games, there may be no one with a 7-1 record – and in fact, the league may be lucky to have a handful of 6-2 clubs. There could have easily been just one franchise with one loss in the whole league today, if not for some luck – but will the so called elite stay lucky for long?
Here is what the top 12 of the NFL power rankings Week 8 may look like, although they’re holding on by the skin of their teeth.
1. Jets: 5-1
2. Steelers: 5-1
3. Patriots: 5-1
4. Colts: 4-2
