Week 3 of the NFL preseason is in the books, and the results are in. See below for a complete wrap up of scores and results for the week, including a brief summary of each game. That is followed by an analysis of a couple of key games, and a look forward to the last week of the 2010 NFL preseason.
Thursday, Aug. 26
St Louis Rams 36-New England Patriots 35 – Rookie QB Sam Bradford looked sharp for the Rams as they win on a last-second field goal.
Green Bay Packers 59-Indianapolis Colts 24 – Aaron Rodgers and the Pack go wild and run up the score on the Colts backups in the second half.
Friday, Aug. 27
Washington Redskins 16-New York Jets 11 – The Jets offense sputtered again as the ‘Skins got a much-needed win.
Atlanta Falcons 16-Miami Dolphins 6 – The Falcons played lights-out defense in holding the Dolphins to just two field goals.
New Orleans Saints 36-San Diego Chargers 21 – The Saints offense looked impressive again versus San Diego.
Philadelphia Eagles 20-Kansas City Chiefs 17 – The Chiefs are now 0-3 in the preseason in a mistake-filled game on both sides.
Saturday, Aug. 28
Detroit Lions 35-Cleveland Browns 27 – Both teams’ offenses looked sharp in another high-scoring game without much defense.
Buffalo Bills 35-Cincinnati Bengals 20 – The Bills offense sparkled while the Bengals sputtered.
Jacksonville Jaguars 19-Tampa Bay Buccaneers 13 – The Jags dominated the Bucs in a somewhat deceptive final score.
Baltimore Ravens 24-New York Giants 10 – The Ravens are 3-0 in the preseason and looked very impressive again.
Houston Texans 23-Dallas Cowboys 7 – The Texans whipped the mistake-prone Cowboys and won the 2010 bragging rights for the Lone Star State.
Carolina Panthers 15-Tennessee Titans 7 – The Panthers played ferocious defense in shutting down Vince Young and the Titans.
Minnesota Vikings 24-Seattle Seahawks 13 – Brett Favre threw for 187 yards, but neither team looked very sharp in this contest.
Arizona Cardinals 14-Chicago Bears 9 – Matt Leinart had a good game for the Cards, but Jay Cutler did not impress for the Bears.
San Francisco 49ers 28-Oakland Raiders 24 – The 49ers move to 3-0 in the preseason with a last minute touchdown to beat the Raiders.
Sunday, Aug. 29
Denver Broncos 34-Pittsburgh Steelers 17 – The Broncos doubled up the Steelers as they played their starters most of the first half.
Preseason Week 3 Key Games
Sam Bradford and the Rams gave notice to the league that they are nobody’s whipping boy any more as they stunned the Patriots 36-35 on Thursday. The reserves made it a close game, but the final score was very deceptive, as the Rams outgained the Pats 462 yards to 288 yards.
Questions remain regarding the 2010 Cowboys, as their offense sputtered again and they were solidly whipped by the Texans 23-7. Maybe Jerry Jones and Wade Phillips are saving their firepower for the regular season, but Tony Romo and the Dallas offense have shown absolutely nothing to this point.
Preseason Week 4 Preview
All of the games in the final week of the 2010 NFL preseason are played on Thursday, Sept. 2 (the regular season starts on Sept. 9), and New England at NY Giants, Denver at Minnesota, and Miami at Dallas look like the big games of the week.
