NFL Week 5 picks will not be easy. However, why should the NFL Week 5 picks be different than any other this season? Through the first month of the season, the unexpected has ruled the day, as almost no favorite has been safe. With no true powerhouses in the league this season, pundits and fans can feel free to be as wild as they want in picking games. Therefore, selecting favorites in one’s picks may not be the best course of action.
Last week, the Saints, Falcons and Packers almost lost to winless teams, while the Bears were slaughtered, Michael Vick and the Eagles were banged up, and the Steelers finally lost without Ben Roethlisberger. So the biggest favorites for this Sunday and Monday may be the easiest to go against.
Favorites in Week 5 include the Saints over the Cardinals, the Colts over the Chiefs, the Falcons over the Browns, and the Ravens over the Broncos. But a case can be made for them, and other favorites, to go down hard.
The Saints have hardly been impressive lately, even if the Cardinals have looked worse. Since the Saints couldn’t hold off the winless Panthers at home until the last minute, blowing out the Cardinals on the road would look together. Meanwhile, the Falcons are also trying to recover from a near-miss upset, against a Browns team that finally got their first win last Sunday.
As for the Colts-Chiefs matchup, most prognosticators are certain that the Chiefs will finally go down to defeat. Yet the Colts lost last Sunday to a Jaguars team that looked pathetic – although the Jaguars always play them tough. If the Chiefs are for real, they will prove it against a Colts team that needs to get their heads back above water.
Meanwhile, the Ravens are now the new AFC favorite after beating the Steelers – but they also looked like a favorite after beating the Jets, then they got tripped up by the Bengals. The Broncos are coming off a big road win at Tennessee, as Kyle Orton could be able to stand up against the Ravens’ defense.
Elsewhere, the Week 5 picks favor Green Bay over Washington, although the Packers have more question marks than the Redskins these days. The Texans look to go 4-1 against the Giants, but they have failed to make a statement against an NFC East team before.
The Eagles are facing an 0-4 49ers team, yet without Michael Vick, a loss would not qualify as an upset. And as for the Monday night Vikings-Jets battle, the Vikings chances have suddenly improved with Randy Moss coming back.
Chaos will have to be reined in eventually – or so one would believe. Until then, Week 5 picks from the experts can’t quite be trusted.
