Matt Cain delivered seven shutout innings of work to give the San Francisco Giants a 3-0 Game 3 victory and a 2-1 lead in the 2010 National League Championship Series.
Cain allowed only two hits and three walks while striking out five Phillies. The San Francisco bullpen allowed only one hit to complete the shutout.
San Francisco only managed five hits in the game, but they made them count. Cody Ross continued his outstanding NLCS with an RBI single in the fourth to give the Giants the lead. Aubrey Huff added an RBI single later in the inning and Freddy Sanchez delivered an RBI single in the fifth to give the Giants a 3-0 lead.
Cole Hamels was the hard-luck loser for Philadelphia despite only allowing five hits and one walk while striking out eight Giants in six innings.
The National League Championship Series continues Wednesday evening with Game 4 from San Francisco. The Giants can clinch the National League pennant in front of their home crowd with victories in Games 4 and 5.
