MUNI has done a lot in terms of easing the anxiety of waiting for a bus or train by posting estimated time of arrival. However, at this very busy corner of 24th and Church, the estimated time of arrival signs have not arrived yet.
The estimated to of arrival is posted for buses along 24th Street, but they are not available for the J at this corner. The estimated of arrival is posted for buses at this corner, but they go in another direction. Yet, the J is the fastest and surest way downtown from Noe Valley because of the hill near Dolores Park. On some nights, it is pretty cold to wait for the train at this stop.
You can check the time that the J train comes if you have a smartphone. If you do not have a cell phone you are out of luck. The train is sometimes late. Those with smartphones can check a variety of sources, but those without just have to wait.
I am sure that this is because there are not the usual shelters on the island in the middle of the street. There are estimated time to arrival postings on 3rd Street along the T-line, which is on an islands, so MUNI does have them in its portfolio. They has just not arrived in Noe Valley yet. I guess we just have to be patient.
