In North Bernal Heights, we are always looking for new ways to unite the community and show what distinguishes us from other neighborhoods. However, the online presence of North Bernal Heights does not actually focus on the average demographic for the majority of people that live there.
When you examine the local population of North Bernal Heights, there are a large proportion of renters. According to the 2009 US Census, about 70% of them are, on average, in their early 30’s and make about $55K per year. However, only 1 in 3 has finished a college degree. Furthermore, most of them don’t have any children.
Does this mean that neighborhood organizations that focus on the North Bernal Heights should consider singles mixers? Perhaps not, but it would be nice to be a bit spoiled like neighbors in nearby Noe Valley. In addition to various neighborhood organizations that focus on residents that own property, Noe Valley also has many community-wide community organizations that focus on a demographic that mirrors North Bernal Heights.
Maybe it’s not what neighborhood organizations or merchant alliances are all about, but an alliance with renters in the neighborhood could have more opportunities than first expected.
