Two decades ago we still had Saturday morning cartoons, School House Rock, somewhat wholesome programming, public service announcements, and commercials.
Two decades ago life was being lead in the 1990s. People were embarking upon new and exciting changes, yet some things remained the same. Those things that remained the same were commercials. There was a never ending barrage of them targeting children.
The most memorable commercials targeted for children that stand out to me were the endless breakfast products available to kids during the 1990s. I have enjoyed my share of breakfast foods from the 1990s and my children still enjoy some of these same products.
My favorite nostalgic kids’ commercials from the 1990s would have to be hands down the breakfast products. These commercials were developed to sell a product, not sex, the idea or even a glimpse of it to children.
My top all time favorite kids’ commercial from the 90s showed up on television screens in 1993 featuring a keystone cop, a prisoner, and the prisoners ever faithful friend. Have you guessed Cookie Crisp Cereal yet?
Do you remember Garfield? Well, Garfield made an early morning appearance in 1993 with the Honey Bee of Cheerios and produced a nostalgic wonder all its own. The commercial was amazing because Garfield was so not a morning cat, yet there he was.
Were you cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs? Did you know someone who was? I was particularly fond of the cereal but not quite cuckoo for it. I really loved the upbeat energy that this commercial produced.
Who could resist the 1993 sensation who always said this “they’re magically delicious”? Yes, that rascally little Leprechaun who sold more boxes of Lucky Charms than anyone could have ever imagined. I loved the spirit that little Leprechaun had and he was only a cartoon.
We can not forget the famous phrase of all time “Let go of my Eggo”. These commercials were awesome and Eggo had a great creative team which is why I loved these commercials. The commercials were always fresh and upbeat. The people involved with these commercials were always scheming to get the Eggo before the other.
There are so many products and commercials that were produced in the 1990’s, it was very hard to choose just a few. However, taking a trip down memory lane does not have to end here. The internet has made nostalgic even easier.
