What is the national flower of the United States? It’s the rose, of course, and October 7th is Rose Day (or National Flower Day) in America.
On October 7, 1986, 40thU.S. President Ronald Reagan signed a resolution, making the rose the nation’s official flower. Where did this national flower resolution signing ceremony take place? It occurred in the White House Rose Garden, of course!

On October 7, 1954, contralto Marian Anderson became the first African American vocalist employed to sing with the Metropolitan Opera of New York.
The Motion Picture Association of American began employing a film-rating system to rate age-appropriateness of movies on October 7, 1968. This date became known as G-Rated Birthday as well.
Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical Cats (based on T.S. Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats) opened on Broadway in New York City on October 7, 1981. Cats had opened in London’s West End the previous year. The popular musical ran for a record 7,485 performances on Broadway.
Palestinian terrorists hijacked the Achille Lauro, an Italian cruise ship, in the Mediterranean Sea on October 7. 1985. More than 400 passengers were aboard at the time. The following day, the hijackers killed wheelchair-bound passenger Leon Klinghoffer and tossed his body overboard.
