People are always able to fine new use for old junk; this month the Brooklyn Women’s Bar Association is hoping your old clothes and old cell phones can find a way from your collection to their downtown Brooklyn drop boxes. The gesture is small but the end result is enormous. This charity drive, according to Brooklyn Eagle, is in “support of women who are either escaping or enduring domestic violence, or women who are returning to the workplace.”
These two “annual Brooklyn Women’s Bar Association (BWBA) Initiatives – the Cell Phone Drive and the Woman to Woman Dress for Success Clothing Drive – are both requesting donations of gently used goods.”
Cell Phones for Victims: For all the month of October, the Cell Phone Drive accepts used cell phones “to be donated to victims of domestic violence. The Cell Phone Drive drop-locations include the Criminal Court at 120 Schermerhorn Street and the security desks in Kings County Supreme Court Civil Term 360 Adams St and Kings County Civil Court 141 Livingston St. This drive welcomes donations of all types.
Dress for Success: Another worthy drive at locations in a variety of spots in Brooklyn is women’s professional attire. This drive is running until 10/15. The annual drive is one of BWBA’s most successful events for charity. The clothes are donated to women of limited financial ability who are “preparing to re-enter the workforce.” Drop off locations include Kings County Supreme Court, Kings County Civil Court, Offices of Meredith Lusthaus 186 Joralemon St, and the offices of Hemalee Patel in Manhattan Supreme Court.
