Oprah’s Favorite Things for 2010 show aired today and it was historic in that this will be the final one. Though her last season is not over yet, Oprah obviously has no intention of toning down her “ability” to think big and give big! And why would she? For years Oprah has literally been an influencing “force” in every aspect of the business and economic world in the US and abroad. Oprah has literally billions of fans who watch her show religiously, and today’s revealing of her “Favorite Things for 2010” was bigger and better than ever. The audience literally was frantic with excitement! Oprah even had paramedics on standby in case there were some who became too excited or overwhelmed
When the world learned what Oprah’s favorite things were today, no doubt the economy will shoot through the roof. I’m being a little bit sarcastic in the last statement because who will be able to go out and purchase Oprah’s big ticket items with the unemployment rate in the US at its highest in years?
Each audience member in attendance today will receive all of Oprah’s picks for 2010. Among the most expensive items on Oprah’s Favorite Things List was an all expenses paid 7day United/Royal Caribbean Allureof the Sea cruise, a $3,600 52-inch 3D Bravia Sony Television,Judith Ripka Eclipse Earrings worth$525, and a NikonD3100 Digital LSR Camera worth $700. I don’t know about you, but if I received all of these things at one time this Christmas, the rest of them in my life would seem pretty dismal. I really don’t see that this type of hyping materialism is healthy for society nor a good example for our children. This is exactly why the economy is in such a mess now, greed. People want too much, covet too much, and most of all want it handed to them free without working for it.
Oprah has done some great humane things during her years on TV, but this yearly listing of “Oprah’s Favorite Things” is nothing but hype. It is all mirrors and screens. Oprah I’m sure gives millions of dollars to charities yearly, but she doesn’t give away her millions in this yearly marionette. This is all just for publicity. The companies who want to make more money during the upcoming Holiday shopping season donate these items knowing Oprah’s influence and endorsement of their items will go a long way to boost sales.
People need to finally learn that it is not “things” that make us happy. If we rely on buying things we don’t have the money to pay for to make us feel happy, we are in bad shape. Be content with what God has allowed you to use while on this earth. Learn to be good stewards of your health and money, and you will find happiness much more quickly.
