I am a woman of color who has always had “problem” hair. I believe that part of the reason my hair has been problematic over the years is because, first of all, my hair is about as coarse and kinky as hair textures comes, making it more prone to dryness. This tendency to be drier than other textures of black hair results in my hair breaking off easily, especially if I don’t keep it properly moisturized.
Another reason that my hair is problematic is that, since I prefer wearing my hair straight as opposed to natural (I’m just not a fan of big 70s afros), I have to use a great deal of heat and chemicals on it. This, of course, makes my hair even more weak and brittle. Furthermore, my hair has been giving me trouble because I was unknowingly over-processing it for years by improperly putting in my own chemicals relaxers at home.
Due to the state of my hair, I knew that using just any type of shampoo wasn’t going to work for my delicate hair. After doing a great deal of research, I learned that Pantene’s shampoos were created specifically to combat certain hair issues, so I decided to first try Pantene Breakage to Strength shampoo. After using this particular shampoo, I noticed a slight improvement in my hair. Although it was still breaking a great deal, the breakage had lessened somewhat, and my hair was very shiny and not quite as dry. I didn’t expect for this shampoo to create a miracle with my hair, especially with the horrible shape it was in, but the small improvement was promising, and I vowed to continue using Pantene products.
After using Pantene Breakage to Strength for a month, I did notice that the condition of my hair had improved somewhat, although not as much as I had hoped. The little improvement that I did notice was better than what I had experienced with other products. I did however, after the month of using Pantene Breakage to Strength, switch to Pantene Relaxed & Natural shampoo, the Dry to Moisturized, to be specific.
Pantene Relaxed & Natural Dry to Moisturized helped to improve the condition of my battered hair almost immediately. This led me to believe that the Relaxed & Natural shampoo truly is created specifically for black hair. I noticed the way it gently cleansed my hair without causing it to become drier and slowed the breakage quite a bit. My hair was more manageable than usual as well. This was very exciting, since I hadn’t had much luck with shampoos in the past. I will definitely purchase Pantene Relaxed & Natural: Dry to Moisturized in the future and I would recommend it to any woman (or man) of color looking for the perfect shampoo to help rejuvenate her or his dry hair.
