According to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, Paradigm Electronics, of Ontario, Canada, has voluntarily recalled one of their products. This recall was released September 7, 2010.
What is being recalled?
Approximately 2,200 speakers are included in this recall.
What’s the problem?
If played loudly for a long period of time, the speaker can overheat. If this happens, the speaker could cause a fire. While no injuries have been reported as of release time, there was one incident involving minor property damage to the carpet the speaker was resting on.
Which specific speakers are involved in this recall?
Paradigm Cinema 70CT Subwoofers are involved in this recall. The speakers were sold as part of a system, including Paradigm Cinema 70CT 120 volt and Paradigm Cinema 70 CT 230 volt. The system includes six components: two front speakers, two rears, a center channel, and the subwoofer. These black speakers have serial numbers that begin with 111028 and go up, which can be found on the back of the speaker on the amp panel. You can also find the amperage rating on the back panel. If your subwoofer has a rating of 1.25A L250 volt, it is exempt from this recall. These speakers were manufactured in China and sold in the US nationwide from July 2009 through August 2010 at small specialty store and independent audio products dealers. They were also sold online at amazon.com. They sold for about $700.
