Recently, a Parnassus man informed the Board of Supervisors that they should get involved as soon as possible with sponsoring the famous America’s Cup. Yacht lovers all know about the annual event that chooses a new port every year. There are many good reasons Parnassus should be involved in hosting the 34th America’s Cup.
In order to plans something specific, a certain kind of community needs to be involved. Although the Parnassus Area is not next to water, many of the neighbors own boats and yachts. Parnassus residents are also the members of many nautical related organizations.
While it might seem like someone else’s job to get the ball rolling on the 34th America’s Cup, getting involved as a neighborhood in the early stages of planning can be profitable. This is especially true since, unlike other neighborhoods in San Francisco, most people who live in Parnassus are property owners.
Additionally, the age group of residents in the neighborhood and the number of retirees make Parnassus a great group of people to organize an upcoming one time event. Of course, accommodations for a yacht convention, like the America’s Cup will draw other high end and wealthy patrons to San Francisco. Wouldn’t it be nice if we can make sure the visitors saw what is best about Parnassus first?
