For some, applying eye makeup can be daunting. It is not easy to achieve a perfect look at first try. However, to achieve a bright, clean, everyday look with liquid eyeliner and mascara is actually quite easy, with the right tools. The keys to success include the best lash curler, easy to use mascaras, and a trick to applying eyeliner that may change your makeup-life forever!
Start with a fresh clean face. Do NOT apply face makeup prior to applying eye makeup, as any smudge will require you to remove and reapply your face makeup. Always begin with the eye. The absolute key to obtaining beautiful lashes may not necessarily lie with mascara, but with the curler. The Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler (available online or at any Sephora store) is the best lash curler available. An additional trick is to heat the lash curler, GENTLY, with a blow-dryer prior to use. Next, bring the curler to your lash line, and gently squeeze and hold for twenty seconds.
After curling, it is time to apply mascara. Every drugstore and beauty supply store contains a dizzying array of mascaras that promise different results. There are three types of mascara that I recommend everyone to own: an everyday, less expensive simple kind for quick application, a lash-extending type for when you are not looking your most awake, and a luxurious splurge to keep on hand for the most special of nights. For each category, I recommend the following; CoverGirl LashBlast Length for daily use, L’Oreal Double-Extend for dramatically longer lashes, and Christian Dior DiorShow for the most special occasions. When applying mascara, make sure to apply by carefully wiggling the brush left to right as you reach towards the top of the lash. This method provides the best separation. Keep an eyelash comb on hand to remove any clumps! An eyelash comb may save you from believing that you are hopeless at applying mascara.
After the mascara is applied, it is time for the eyeliner. Do NOT spend a lot of money on eyeliner. In my several years of using different types of liquid eyeliner, I have found that Prestige Liquid Eyeliner is the easiest to apply, and it will never smudge or fade throughout the course of a day (provided that you do not rub your eyes!) There is no reason to shy away from liquid eyeliner, as the actual application of the line does not need to be perfect. My trick that I have used for years is to apply a line as sloppily as you want (though the neater you start, the easier it is) right on top of your lashes. Next, take a Q-Tip, and dip it into L’Oreal Dermo Expertise Eye Makeup Remover. This is the only brand that I recommend to do this trick! Any greasy eye makeup remover will just render a disaster. Once you have your Q-Tip (not soaking wet, just slightly) wet, carefully smooth over the line in a sweeping motion until it is perfect. Your eyeliner should look as though it had been tattooed perfectly on!
Finally, slightly shade in your brows. This trick is only for those with dark hair. I love the Anastasia Perfect Brow pencil. Lightly shading in your brows pulls your entire face together, making you look wide-eyed and beautiful. Just make sure to do it lightly!
