I love my dog. She is a member of the family. However, there is no denying that she can sometimes pick up the strangest odors and transfer them to our home.
I have tried a lot of things over the years. Some have worked and some have not. A few have even managed to make the situation worse.
When I purchased my new Bissell vacuum it came with Pet Fresh Odor Eliminating Vacuum Bags. I didn’t give them much thought, assuming it was another of the claims that companies sometimes do to rope in a sucker.
However, after using the bags, I did seem to notice a difference. So I kept on using them and I’m now a very happy pet owner.
Pet Fresh Odor Eliminating Vacuum Bags are made by Arm & Hammer. Three bags come in a package and retail for around $10.
Arm & Hammer makes several claims regarding these bags. First, they claim the bags help to eliminate odors that are typically caused by things such as bacteria, fungi and mold.
Second, they claim the bags have 100% filtration. That means they are supposed to retain in the bag all of the debris, dust and dust mites, grass and plant pieces, household fibers, human and pet hair as well as ragweed pollen.
Furthermore they claim that the Fresh-ins scent packets provided with the bags use baking soda properties to neutralize common odors. They also say the packets help provide twice the amount of pet deodorizing power.
Finally, they claim the Fresh-ins scent packets are safe for use around pets and children. But how do those claims really stack up?
Claim #1 deals with elimination of odors. The verdict it mixed with this one. There is no denying that these bags are better equipped to deal with household odors than most of their competitors. They manage to eliminate far more odors than the more traditional vacuum bag. They do not; however, eliminate them all. Therefore the rating for this claim is 4 (good).
Claim #2 deals with absolute filtration. To be fair, Pet Fresh Odor Eliminating Vacuum Bags only claim to filter dust and dust mites, grass and plant pieces, household fibers and ragweed pollens. They do appear to work beautifully with regard to those items. They do not; however, trap in bed bugs, fleas or ticks, which have become a major household problem in recent years. Therefore the rating here is 4 (good).
Claim #3 deals with whether or not the Fresh-in scent packets help to neutralize odor. Again, the verdict is mixed. If the odor is minor (barely noticeable), the packets seem to work well. If the odor is heavy (e.g., dog urine), the packets have little or no effect at all. Therefore the rating for this claim is 3 (average).
Claim #4 deals with the safety of the Fresh-ins packets. I have used them extensively around both my dog and my grandchildren without any incident or problem. Therefore the rating here is 5 (outstanding).
That gives these bags and their accompanying Fresh-in packets an overall rating of 4. That is well within the “good” category.
Instructions for using these bags are provided on each bag. To use the Fresh-ins scent packets, simply open and pour them into the bag before putting it into the vacuum cleaner. It couldn’t be easier.
Arm & Hammer also provides a performance guarantee. If the bags don’t work for some reason, you should contact the company at 1-888-800-2302.
I like these bags. I do believe they are better than standard vacuum bags.
