Michael Vick and the Philadelphia Eagles travel down South to take on Vince Young and the Tennessee Titans October 24th. Vince Young left the Jacksonville Jaguars game with a strained knee and could be questionable for this game and Michael Vick is already a scratch. What was once going to be a battle of mobile quarterbacks is now a possible aerial show between Kerry Collins and Kevin Kolb.
Philadelphia Eagles Offense vs Tennessee Titans Defense
Kevin Kolb, the Philadelphia Eagles “back up quarterback,” is capable of leading his Philadelphia Eagles offense to a big game but he has a history of getting overwhelmed against a solid defense. The Tennessee Titans pass rush is tough to stop and the Philadelphia Eagles have a suspect offensive line that continues to have health problems. Desean Jackson will be out for this game with a concussion and this means Jeremy Macklin and Brent Celek will be Kolb’s primary receivers.
The Tennessee Titans defense is one of the most unrelenting defenses in the NFL and has stifled some of the best offenses in the NFL. Dave Ball, Jason Jones and Jason Babin have provided an intense pass rush that has set the tone for the Tennessee Titans defense. Between the three they have racked up 13 sacks in just six games. The Tennessee Titans defense has an edge over the Philadelphia Eagles defense.
Philadelphia Eagles Defense vs Tennessee Titans Offense
The Vince Young injury leaves the quarterback position up in the air but it won’t make much of a difference. Kerry Collins is an ample replacement for Young and won’t change much of the Tennessee Titans offensive philosophy.
Collins is obviously not as fleet of foot as Young but he is a solid pocket passer with a solid offensive line. Then there is Chris Johnson, the Tennessee Titans 2,000 yard a year rushing machine. With Johnson in the back field the Tennessee Titans offense can set up a perfect play action scenario for Collins.
The Philadelphia Eagles defense has been suspect but their performance last weekend against a potent offense in the Atlanta Falcons was very solid. The secondary has been beatable in all but the Atlanta Falcons game but it will be interesting to see what Kerry Collins can do with extra time provided by his offensive line. The Tennessee Titans offense has a slight edge over the Philadelphia Eagles defense.
