Piers Morgan will be taking over the Larry King Live slot on CNN in January. This announcement is the most talked-about story today, as it hangs high in Entertainment News on Google.
Americans know Morgan for his stint on NBC’s America’s Got Talent, but the UK is more than just acquainted with the man. They have held Morgan in high esteem for his journalistic talents, and he is well-deserving of their admiration, according to CNN News.
Everything about Morgan is entertaining: his voice, his quick wit, and his brutally honest opinions. He is also easy on the eyes in the looks department. These are just some of the talents we have witnessed from Morgan as he was cast in an entertainment venue on America’s Got Talent. In the UK, these same traits made him an expert at asking some of the tough questions in journalistic news.
CNN was going to have big shoes to fill in the wake of King’s departure; it looks like they went at the task head on and got someone who will appeal to the majority of the subcultures that make up the masses. The ladies love the distinguished Morgan — he has a Cary Grant appeal. His quick wit mirrors that of a very refined Howard Stern, and his brutally honest opinions are not unlike another British star that America loves to watch in action, Simon Cowell.
The name of Morgan’s show has not been released yet, but it will air live at 9 p.m. ET. It will be watched by the same worldwide audience that King attracted.
This was a good move on CNN’s part when it comes to not upsetting the apple cart and losing viewers. Most who tuned into King every night will enjoy Morgan’s style, and they may even pick up a larger audience from the other side of the pond.
Most likely, Morgan would have not come to mind when it came to imagining a replacement for King for most people in the US. We have not seen him in a Larry King Live-type of setting; we have only witnessed his critiquing of talent in a glorified talent show.
His credentials are vast and range from being a newspaper reporter, when he started out in journalism, to becoming the youngest editor ever at Rupert Murdoch’s News of the World. From there, he went on to host interview programs for the BBC and ITV, becoming a well-known television personality in the UK.
