A voice startled the girl awake. Jody opened her eyes, swung her feet over the side of her bed. “What? What?” The girl said, several times, glancing around the room. She didn’t see anyone. She didn’t even know if Sammy had returned yet.
“Jody?” Said a strange voice.
Jody’s eyes went wide and her hands started to shake. For a moment she thought she was going crazy, but then remembered the communicator built into her collar. “Yes? Hello?” Jody said, hoping she was correct.
“Hi. My name is Travis. Sorry for startling you.” Said a male voice.
“It’s alright. Is something wrong?” Jody asked.
“Yeah. A monster has just shown up. Took us by surprise too.” Travis said. “It’s a class B monster. We need you to get on it right away.”
“I’m coming!” Jody said. As she got up and headed for the door a holographic map appeared in front of her right eye. The girl saw a green map of the entire city plus a red dot. “The red dot’s the monster right?” Jody asked.
“That’s correct.” Travis said. “Be careful. This thing can shoot energy beams and it absorbs power using these weird tentacles located on it’s shoulder blades. It’s not really tough, but it gave Zero problems.”
“I understand.” Jody said. Stepping out of the building and running across the bridge. The girl blushed as she passed several cars that had been stopped at stoplights and intersections. She could only imagine what the citizens thought about her racing through the city heading for the monster.
“I have to admit Jody.” Travis said, chuckling a little. “You look really cool.”
“Thank you sir.” Jody said, she wasn’t sure how she felt getting compliments from someone she had never met before.
“I was actually on my way to meet you in person, but the monster showed up.” Travis said.
“Hopefully I’ll see you after this!” Jody said. The girl followed the map until she spotted the monster in the distance. The creature stood several feet taller then Jody, it’s skin was dark brown in color. It had large red eyes with a third eye in the middle of it’s forehead. The creature had long arms, and three fingers on each hand and three toes on each foot. The creature had large, insect like wings and four tentacles that were sprouting out of the creatures shoulder blades. Two of those tentacles were moving back and forth like a snake while the other two were touching the buildings that surrounded it. Jody knew instantly that the creature was hunting for energy.
The creatures name was Gryllidae.
Jody halted in her tracks. She felt scared. It wasn’t the first time she had seen the creature. Once she had driven around in a tank chasing after the being. Even then she felt calm and collective, but now she was facing the creature down by herself.
“It’s ok Jody.” Travis said, in a low voice. “You can take this thing out.”
“Right.” Jody said, nodding. “Sorry about that.” The girl said. Jody took several deep breaths. She closed her eyes and focused on the battle ahead. When her eyes opened she started running at Gryllidae. She had every intention of taking the creature down as fast as she could. “Here I go!” Jody thought.
Gryllidae didn’t seem to notice Jody had arrived as it continued down the long street looking for power. It’s red eyes moved along the many windows and it’s tentacles continued to feel around the building hoping to find some source of power. Little did the creature know the power in that sector of the city had been shut off.
Jody ran at the creature as fast as she could and with all her might she struck the creature using her shoulders.
Gryllidae roared in anger as it fell forwards and struck the ground. It’s tentacles lashed the air wildly trying to find the one that had struck it. Jody quickly backed away as the tentacles grew dangerously close to striking her.
Gryllidae quickly got to it’s feet and turned to face Jody. Jody stood her ground as the creature roared in defiance. “Come on you ugly piece of crap!” Jody said through clenched teeth. Her eyebrows were knitted.
The creature’s third red eye started to smoke and the air around it’s body grew denser. Jody knew exactly what was about to happen. Gryllidae was going to fire it’s energy beam out of it’s third eye.
Jody could practically time the energy beam’s attack. Even so she knew she couldn’t dodge the beam. She was afraid it would strike a building filled with people.
Gryllidae fired it’s energy beam and Jody placed her hands in front of her face. To her surprise the beam stopped just inches from striking her face. Then she remembered the invisible barrier Silvia had mentioned.
“Thank you Silvia!”
When Gryllidae’s energy beam vanished Jody jumped forwards, turned on her heel and kicked the creature in the face using her right foot. The creature backed up several times, but Jody refused to let the creature off so easily. Moving forwards she kicked the creature a few times in the stomach and then planted her heel into the creatures face once more.
The creature roared in rage and lashed out using it’s arms. Jody blocked the first two attacks and then jumped high into the air and over Gryllidae’s head. Before the girl landed gracefully on the other side she struck the creature in the small of the back sending it flying forwards.
“AWESOME WORK!” Travis announced happily.
Jody took several deep breaths. The happiness she felt could be seen on her face. Her cheeks were bright red and her lips were curled in a smile. “I’m really doing it, aren’t I?”
“Yeah you are!” Travis said, happily. “Once you take it down for good we’ll send a retrieval team in to take care of the rest. Just keep it up!”
“I will.” Jody said, turning to face the downed creature.
Gryllidae slowly got to it’s feet. It’s body was shaking with rage. Turning it faced down Jody.
Jody was feeling more confident about the fight. She even knew how she wanted to defeat the creature.
Suddenly Gryllidae moved to the left. Jody quickly responded by moving to the right. Just as the creature and girl passed one another Gryllidae fell to it’s knees and roared loudly.
“What the…” Jody breathed, she never saw Gryllidae act that way before. The girl took this as an opportunity to land another kick. Jumping forwards the girl lifted her left foot and brought it down on Gryllidae’s face. Gryllidae quickly jumped to the right causing Jody’s foot to slam through the building directly behind the creature.
“Whoa!” Jody cried, losing her balance and falling hard on her bottom. “Crap!” Jody snapped, trying to pull her foot out of the building, but it refused to budge. “I’m stuck!” The girl cried out.
“BEHIND YOU!” Travis shouted.
Before Jody could react Gryllidae ran up behind the girl and grabbed her arms using it’s hands. Jody struggled to free herself, but the creature was too powerful for her. The creature roared, but this time it sounded like laughter.
“What are you laughing at!?” Jody screamed. Her eyes were closed tightly as she struggled to free her foot from the building and her arms from the creature.
The girl suddenly felt something strange sliding down her arms. Opening her eyes just a bit she spotted the creatures strange tentacles moving closer to her underarms. The tentacles were searching for power.
“Crap!” Jody breathed, her eyes went wide with terror and her cheeks grew bright red.
“I’m going to use the pulse.” Travis said.
“No need…” Jody said, nervously. The girl burst into ticklish laughter as the tentacles began moving around in the ticklish hollows of her underarms. The girl wriggled harder then before, but the creature was still stronger then she was.
The tentacles continued to slide around her ticklish hollows, then they began moving down her sides. Each of her ribs were poked and squeezed as the monster searched for some power.
“I’m reading your power levels. They are growing. And don’t worry about Gryllidae finding power on your suit. We can only put power into it not take it out.” Travis said.
Jody wanted to respond, but she was laughing too hard. She was also feeling tired. Her chest heaved and her cheeks grew bright red from all the laughing she was doing.
The creature roared with amusement. If Jody didn’t know any better, she would think Gryllidae was enjoying the torture it was putting her through, but knew the creature was single minded. Hunting for power was all it cared for.
Jody’s eyes went wide when she felt the creatures other two tentacles wrap themselves around the girl’s left boot. With a hard tug the creature wrestled the boot off her foot.
“NO!” Jody cried, through her ticklish laughter. “The girl could only imagine how many people were watching this.
Gryllidae began moving it’s tentacles between her toes using one tentacle. It teased the skin between and then scratched the bridge of her foot mercilessly. The other tentacle scratched the middle of her foot, drawing tiny lines up and down the sole and then began feeling out her heel.
Jody felt like she was dying. She struggled and kicked harder then before. The girl could only wonder how much more she could take before she passed out, or before she grew strong enough to free herself.
The girl kicked her foot once more. To her surprise the foot came out of the building. Pulling down on her arms she pulled Gryllidae onto her back. Planting her feet into the ground the girl took one deep breath and then ran backwards slamming the creature into another building.
Gryllidae lost it’s grip on Jody and roared angrily. Jody turned quickly and punched the creature several times, then turned on her heels and slammed the heel of her right foot into the side of the creatures face. The creature flew through the air and slammed into the ground.
The impact was powerful. It was so powerful that the ground beneath Jody’s feet trembled. Several windows in the surrounding buildings exploded and car alarms went off. Even Jody lost her balance and struck the ground.
“Are you ok?” Travis asked.
“I’m fine. Sorry about the damages. I promise I’ll pay for it.” Jody said.
“Don’t worry about it. Just get up and keep going.” Travis said. The man then laughed. “And you’ll pay for the damages, huh? Sorry, but we couldn’t pay you enough to pay for all this.”
“Oh… right.” Jody said, blushing hard.
“Don’t worry. Everyone’s been evacuated and everyone in the city has monster insurance. They’re covered.” Travis said.
“I forgot.” Jody said, laughing herself. The girl rolled behind the building she had her foot stuck in and retrieved her boot. Sliding it onto her foott the girl headed back around the building, but Gryllidae was waiting.
Jody gasped as all three of the creature’s eyes lit up. “I didn’t know…” Jody began, as three beams of energy struck the girl’s invisible barrier. The barrier absorbed the beams, but it was still strong enough to knock the girl backwards.
Jody slammed into the building behind her. She felt the buildings debris land on her head and shoulders. The girl sank to the street. She felt tired. Like she couldn’t last much longer, but knew she didn’t have a choice.
A tentacle wrapped around Jody’s wrists, binding her hands together. The girl gasped as her arms were pulled over her head. The other three tentacles began tickling Jody’s upper body. One tentacle poked and scratched her underarms while the other two squeezed her ticklish sides.
Jody screamed with ticklish laughter. She thrashed wildly and kicked her feet. Gryllidae once again roared with laughter itself.
“Come on Jody! This is Gryllidae after all! Zero beat him in five minutes. Least I can do is beat him!”
Jody pulled as hard as she could. She felt the tentacles binding her arms loosen their grip. This must have surprised Gryllidae as it wrapped another tentacle around her wrists, but even this wasn’t enough to keep them bound. The creature roared angrily as it wrapped the other two tentacles around her wrists and arms. At first this seemed to work, but then they began to loosen.
Jody freed her arms. Jumping to her feet the girl slammed her left foot into the creatures chest. Then grabbed it around the waist. Running a short distance the girl leapt into the air and slammed the creature into the street.
The sound of the creature slamming into the ground was deafening. It was so powerful that hundreds of windows exploded and the car alarms shut off. A plume of smoke was launched into the air.
Jody quickly got to her feet. She was ready to fight some more, but Gryllidae didn’t move.
“I did it…” Jody said, breathlessly. “I DID IT!” She cheered, throwing her hands into the air.
“Great work!” Travis said, laughing. “Great work Jody. I’m so proud of you!” The man said.
“Thanks.” Jody said, blushing harder then before.
“If you don’t mind, please wait there while the retrieval unit comes to pick the creature up. They might need your help loading it onto the truck.”
“No problem.” Jody said, nodding.
It took the retrieval unit only ten minutes to show up. The truck that the retrieval unit drove was huge. It was over one hundred feet long and fifty feet tall. It was designed specifically to carry large creatures out of the city. There were several tinnier robots that accompanied the truck. Those were used to lift the creature onto the vehicle.
Jody picked Gryllidae up herself and dropped it onto the truck. The girl then watched as the truck made it’s way out of the city. “What should I do next?” Jody asked.
“Head home. You deserve a break.” Travis said.
Jody didn’t argue as she headed back to her island home. She watched as several cars packed with people returned to the streets. She could see the eyes of every passenger light up with wonder. Little kids waved at her as she passed them on the street.
Jody finally returned home. Sitting on the floor she took several deep breaths. “What a day.” The girl muttered.
“You were awesome!” Sammy said, happily.
“Sammy!” Jody said. “You were watching?” The girl asked.
“Uh-huh!” Sammy said, nodding. “You were on the news!”
“The news!?” Jody squeaked.
Sammy pulled out a tiny remote and pressed a button. Suddenly the large movie theater screen lit up and a news report started playing. Jody watched herself fighting the large creature. To her relief the parts where she was tickle tortured by the creature never showed up.
“You were so awesome!” Sammy announced.
“Thanks.” Jody said, smiling warmly. “I’m really grateful they didn’t show anything too embarrassing.” The girl thought to herself.
A light knocking from the massive door caught the two off guard. “Who’s there?” Jody asked.
“It’s Travis.” Came a familiar voice. “Do you mind if I come in?” The man asked.
“Sure.” Jody said.
The massive door opened wide enough for Travis to slip under. Standing fully erect the man smiled up at Jody. “It’s nice to finally meet you.” The man said. Travis was a hansom man. He had short black hair, dark brown eyes and broad shoulders. He was garbed in a black suit with a red tie.
“It’s nice to meet you too.” Jody said. “I’m Jody.”
“Jody.” Travis said, nodding. “And you are?” He asked, turning his attention to Sammy.
“I’m Jody’s best friend!” Sammy said, running up to Jody and hugging the girl’s right knee.
“She gets jealous pretty easily.” Jody admitted, shrugging her shoulders.
“I do not.” Sammy corrected the girl.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you both.” Travis said, nodding. “By the way. I was watching your fight with Gryllidae through several cameras located around the city. I was really impressed with your work.”
“Thanks.” Jody said, she then turned towards the movie screen still playing her fight with Gryllidae. “I’m actually surprised not everything is being shown.” The girl said.
“We decided to do that for your privacy.” Travis said. “We’ll make sure no one knows about your weakness.”
Sammy narrowed her eyes at the man. “I’m the only one who should know anyways. I’m her best friend!”
“You’re right.” Travis said, chuckling a little. “Well I wanted to introduce myself to you in person. Please keep up the great work.” And with that Travis slid back under the door.
Sammy stuck her cute little tongue out at the man as he passed under the door. “I don’t like him.” She said.
“You don’t like anyone who’s nice to me.” Jody said, poking Sammy’s sides.
Sammy giggled. When Jody stopped tickling her the girl nodded. “Yeah… I guess that’s true.”
“Listen Sammy. I’m going to find a shower around here big enough to hold me. Why don’t we get ready for bed?”
“I get to sleep with you?!” Sammy asked, happily.
“That would probably be too dangerous, but you could lay with me for a while.” Said Jody.
Sammy looked disappointed, but agreed. “Ok.” She said.
Jody got to her feet and headed for the large door, but before stepping out she took one last glance at the movie screen. The girl was confident in her fighting abilities, but was surprised she beat Gryllidae.
“Huh?” Jody began, when she saw a name appear underneath an image of herself. “Power Girl?” Jody read.
“Who?” Sammy asked.
Jody pointed towards the movie screen. “I wonder who decided to call me ‘Power Girl’.” Jody said. Even though the girl would never admit it, she actually liked the name. “Power Girl… That’s me.” Thought Jody.
“You know what?” Jody said. The girl was lying on her stomach on the bed. She was still wearing her uniform except her boots were lying on the ground next to her bed. The girl was looking down at Sammy who was wearing a long, white t-shirt that fell to her bare knees. The girl was smiling happily up at Jody. “I’ve always wanted my own ‘tickle me Sammy’ doll.” The girl said, and with that she took hold of both Sammy’s legs using her index finger and thumb.
Sammy giggled with ticklish delight as Jody reached for her bare feet using her free hand. The girl slowly raked her index finger over the soles of Sammy’s feet. Sammy burst into ticklish laughter and began pounding her fists against Jody’s pillow.
“NOT… FAIR!” Sammy cried.
Jody giggled, but didn’t let up on her tickling. Her index finger moved over both feet at the same time. She started at the bridge of Sammy’s toes and moved it down the sole of her feet and onto the heels.
Sammy’s toes wiggled when she felt Jody’s fingernail move back towards her toes and then down the soles once more. She screamed loudly when she felt Jody scratching her heels.
“STOP! PLEASE!” The girl begged, rolling onto her right side and kicking her feet hard. The girl begged for mercy, but apart of her hoped it never would.
“I know you Sammy.” Jody teased, tickling Sammy’s exposed side. “You’re secretly loving this aren’t you?” The girl watched as Sammy rolled onto her back.
Jody halted her tickling for a moment, but didn’t let her best friend’s feet go. “How?” Sammy asked.
“How what?” Asked Jody.
“How do you know I like being tickled?” Sammy asked.
Jody smiled warmly. “Because. I remember one time I went into your room and tickled you out of bed. Well I headed out of your room to let you get changed and I heard you… I heard you say you wished you could wake up like that everyday.”
Sammy covered her eyes and blushed hard. “I don’t remember saying that!”
“I do!” Jody giggled, poking Sammy’s belly. Sammy grabbed Jody’s finger and tried to pull it away from her belly, but Jody was too strong for her.
“YOU’RE SUCH A BULLY!” Sammy screamed.
“Hey…” Jody said, as though just realizing something. “I really can be a bully this time!” And with that the girl rolled Sammy onto her stomach. Placing a firm hand over Sammy’s back. Jody made sure the only thing not covered by her hand was Sammy’s head and feet. And with that Jody began tickling Sammy’s feet mercilessly.
Sammy screamed loudly and began thrashing as hard as she could underneath Jody’s hand, but she couldn’t escape. She was completely helpless.
“PLEASE!” Sammy struggled to speak, but was laughing too hard.
Jody ran her finger nail up both feet at once and then began running it over one foot at a time. As the moments slowly passed by Sammy’s laughter grew louder and louder. Her chest heaved, her body shook beneath the palm of Jody’s hand and her cheeks grew bright red. Her feet were also bright red and her toes wiggled slightly.
“Enjoying yourself?” Jody asked.
Sammy couldn’t speak. All she could do was laugh.
After a few moments Jody rolled Sammy onto her back. Using one hand she carefully pulled Sammy’s arms over her head and began attacking her ribs. Sammy’s eyes closed tightly and her laughter grew hysterical and desperate. She kicked Jody’s hand as hard as she could, but Jody couldn’t feel the blows.
After a while Sammy’s laughter turned to sobs and after that the girl began to cry. Jody halted her torture. “I’m sorry.” Jody said, patting Sammy’s head.
“It’s… ok…” Sammy said. Even though tears were trickling down her cheeks the girl still managed to smile. “I have to tell you something though.”
“What’s that?” Jody asked.
“You misunderstood me.” Sammy said.
Jody furrowed her eyebrows. “About what?” She asked.
Sammy rolled onto her back. “I didn’t mean I enjoyed being tickled awake.” The girl said, closing her eyes. “I mean I enjoyed being woken up by you.” And with that Sammy drifted off into a deep sleep.
Jody’s lower jaw dropped. “Oh…” The girl breathed.
Jody was sound asleep on her stomach. Her head was resting in her arms, her breaths were shallow. The girl was surprised that her bed was so comfortable and that was why she could sleep so well and long.
“Hmm…” Jody groaned when she felt something scratching her left foot. The girl’s eyes opened slightly. The scratching didn’t stop and it seemed to be moving up and down her foot. “Hey…” She giggled. “W-what is that?”
“Revenge!” Sammy announced scratching the foot faster and harder then before.
Jody’s giggles slowly grew louder and louder and she found it difficult to keep her foot still. She was afraid of moving her foot. She was afraid of kicking her friend. “Tickle! Tickle!” Sammy teased, reaching between two of Jody’s toes and scratching the skin between.
Jody burst into ticklish laughter, she wriggled a little on the bed, but made sure not to move too much. “C-Come O-On Sammy!” Jody giggled. “D-Don’t tickle too… MUCH!” The girl squealed loudly.
Sammy didn’t let up on her torture. Instead she straddled the girl’s foot and began scratching her heel mercilessly. “You can’t move! Hah, hah!” The girl teased.
“NO FAIR!” Jody screamed with ticklish laughter. The girl’s chest heaved and her body shook.
“No fair?” Sammy giggled. “Least I’m not bigger then you…” The girl said, her voice trailed. “You’ve always been bigger though…” The girl said, and with that she picked up her torture.
The girl raked her nails furiously over the bare sole. She then began tracing her index finger over the arch of the girl’s foot using her left hand and tickled the heel with her right hand.
Jody’s head was tilted towards her pillow. Her eyes were closed tightly and her cheeks were bright red. Her lips were curled in a goofy grin and she was laughing hysterically. “COME ON! SAMMY!” Jody cried.
Sammy gave Jody’s foot one last tickle before finally stopping. Jody took several deep breaths as Sammy made her way to the front of the bed. Soon she was poking her head out from underneath the girl’s covers.
“I felt sorry for you.” Sammy said, matter-of-factly.
“Thanks…” Jody breathed. “You’re such a bully!”
“I learn from the best.” Sammy said, narrowing her eyes at her best friend.
“I guess so.” Jody said, scratching her cheek nervously and looking away from her friend. “Oh! How did you get up here?” The girl asked.
“There’s a ladder near the foot of the bed.” Sammy said, gesturing towards the footboards with her head. “I climbed up.”
Jody smiled warmly at her best friend. “Thanks for waking me up.” The girl said. “You want to sleep some? Or do you want to get up?” The girl asked.
Sammy thought a moment. “Let’s sleep a little longer, ok?”
“Ok.” Jody said, draping a hand over Sammy’s back. “Good night.”
“You mean good morning right?” Sammy asked, smiling and blushing.
“Right.” Jody giggled. “Good morning.” The girl said, pulling the covers over their heads. The girl thought bitterly. Jody thought, smiling happily.
