The Powerball winning numbers became wealthy this weekend. In fact, last night’s Powerball winning numbers were worth up to $128.6 million. Mega Millions saw a jackpot like this just last week, before someone finally broke their drought. That winning player came from Michigan, and was awarded $140 million. But last night, the Michigan player who hit the Powerball winning numbers had to settle for $12 million less.
Powerball was the big lottery game of the moment, as no one had hit in over a month. With $128 million on the line, the jackpot could have reached up to $150 if no one won. Instead, someone broke the drought, from a state that seems to be very lucky lately.
The Powerball winning numbers were 7, 12, 23, 34 and 38, with the Powerball at 33. Unlike in the other drawings of the last several weeks, someone was able to guess all six numbers. And for the second straight week, a big lottery winner came from Michigan.
The player is unidentified thus far, but he or she hit a week after another Michigan resident won at Mega Millions. The state has major economic problems, yet the lottery has provided relief to two of its residents recently.
However, at least 11 players could have hit the Powerball winning numbers as well, but fell just shy. The first five numbers were hit by three players in Arizona, two in South Carolina, and one each in Florida, Indiana, Missouri, Washington D.C., Virginia and New York. They will receive $250,000 each for their near-miss.
As for the big winner, he or she has won the biggest Powerball jackpot since June 2, when $261.6 was claimed in Ohio. This grand prize was only the second to go over $100+ million since then, but it was the second one in a row to do so.
Now that the Powerball winning numbers have finally been hit again, it may take some time until both major lottery games are worth this much again. Mega Millions is starting from scratch, and now Powerball is about to do the same.
The Mega Millions grand prize is now at a mere $25 million, after no one hit this past week. As for Powerball, their winning numbers are only worth $20 million now, starting with the next drawing on Wednesday night. But with both games, they may not make major headlines again for another few weeks – if it takes that long to have triple digit jackpots again.
