Good Morning! Good Morning!
Students, it is such an honor to have you in my class. Now, how many of you completed your homework assignment.
Ms. Denise, “I did not get a chance to type my poem. So, I wrote it on art paper.”
Alana, why did you write it on art paper? Ms. Denise, my mother sent a note for you.
Thanks, Alana please bring me the note.
Ms. Denise read the note silently, it said, “Ms. Denise, I apologize, we just moved here and I can’t afford to buy Alana school supplies. We had to use what we had available. Please, give me just a little time. Thanks, Ms. Wise.
Okay, back to your assignments. Who is going to volunteer to read their poem first, said Ms. Denise.
Alana raised her hand with excitement. I will! I will!
Great Alana, you’re next.
Good morning, my name is Alana Wise and the name of my poem is,
“Praise! Make me Love, Like I Have Never Been Hurt”
Every day I wake up, I praise God like I never been hurt,
People look at my clothes,
They say you are nobody,
You are nothing but ugly dirt.
At the end of the day,
When go to bed,
I praise the Lord, and He lifts my head,
In the morning,
When I get out of bed,
I say thank you Lord,
I praise the Lord and He lifts my head,
My clothes are not designed by the famous,
The food we eat, we grow
Mother can’t afford money for the grocery store,
Our home is not very big,
But it is warm, loving, and peaceful,
People are always looking at me,
I don’t have their eyes,
I don’t know what they see,
Do you know what happens, when I look at me?
I see something beautiful, smart, and short,
I love myself, my family and I love God,
Praise! Make me love, like I never been hurt.
Thank you for listening to my poem. Alana Wise.
