Fine Motor Activity for Preschool Lesson Plan: Baker

Play dough: Set out containers of play dough, rolling pins, plastic cookie cutters and baking sheets. Let your preschool students roll out the play dough, cut it with the cookie cutters and then pick up the “cookies” with their fingers and place them on the baking sheets.

Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes: Bakers must sometimes do a lot of bending in their work, what with putting cookies, cakes and pies in the oven to bake. Take this opportunity to play Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes with your preschool students.

Shape desserts: Set out pieces of construction paper with circles (large and small) drawn on them. Let your students cut out the circles and then decorate them with smaller shapes of all sorts that you have also set out. Soon you will have a table filled with shape pies, shape cakes and shape cookies!

Pre-math Center Activity for Preschool Lesson Plan: Baker

Set out the letters b-a-k-e-r that you have previously cut from felt or laminated construction paper. Put out an example of the word baker for your students to use as a guide. Have them set out the letters, properly spelling the word baker. Instruct your preschool students to count the number of letters in the word baker. Now have your preschool students count out 5 cookie shapes (circles) to set beneath the 5 lettered word.

Pre-writing Center Activities for Preschool Lesson Plan: Baker

For younger students, provide sheets of paper with the letters B and b lightly printed on them. Have the children trace the letters. Do the same with the number 5.

For older students, provide an example of the letters B and b and the number 5. Have the students practice writing the letters and number freehand.

Write the word baker on your preschool classroom’s white erase board. Let your students copy the word baker on the white board with pink dry erase markers.
