On August 31, 1997 the world stood in shock as Princess Diana of Wales passed away as the results of injuries sustained in a car accident. While Diana was as much an enigma as anything we can’t all help but wonder if her son, Prince William, has found his mother’s doppelganger. for some years now it has been speculated that Kate Middleton is the next Lady Di, but with all the controversy surrounding Prince William and whether or not they’re engaged, one can’t help but wonder, are the echoes of Princess Diana reflected in the comforting tenor of Kate Middleton?
Princess Diana & Kate Middleton: Similarities: One can’t help but notice the striking similarities in Princess Diana and Kate Middleton. As The Today Show (1) noted as far back as 8/31/07 – the ten year anniversary of Princess Diana’s death; Kate Middleton “…is young, she is glamorous, she is a most uncommon commoner…Is she the next Princess Diana?”
Princess Diana’s Courtship: While the simple beauty of both ladies cannot be denied there are other similarities in Kate Middleton and Princess Diana. Both are seemingly shy and both were able to latch on to a Royal family with this curious shyness. From biography.com (2) “Diana was no stranger to the British royal family, having reportedly played with Prince Andrew and Prince Edward as a child while her family rented Park House, an estate owned by Queen Elizabeth II.” While neither Kate Middleton or Lady Diana were born royalty, their lines have been fairly well projected towards greatness; “Diana’s family, the Spencer’s, were aristocrats with ties to the royal Windsor’s, but they themselves were not royalty. Middleton’s parents are self-made millionaires with common roots.” Self made millionaires or the daughter of aristocrats; both Lady Diana and Kate Middleton seem poised for greatness.
Kate Middleton & Prince William 2011? Not Yet: The latest news all over the internet is that bookmakers have stopped taking odds on Kate Middleton and Prince William getting engaged in 2011; it’s something of a foregone conclusion, right? Well, not so fast. Us Weekly (3) just reported that a July 2, 2011 wedding is “…absolute nonsense!” and is “nothing more than speculation.” On July 2, twenty years earlier was when Princess Diana and Prince Charles were married. According to Us Weekly another sources has come out with “Right now there (are) absolutely no wedding plans taking place. That is the truth.”
While the truth waits for no one we’ll have to wait and see what the world’s looking at on July 2, 2011. Will it be a Kate Middleton and Prince William marriage? I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
