The cold dry air makes my skin super itchy and dry. At nighttime I can not seem to fall asleep because I am always itching my skin and annoyed by the itchy sensation. So to solve this little dry itching skin problem of mine along with my sleepless nights I decided to try Bath & Body Works Aromatherapy Lavender Vanilla Sugar Scrub. It helps stop the itch by exfoliating and moisturizing my skin and helps calm my mind so I can fall asleep easier at nighttime.
The calming sugar scrub comes in a clear plastic container that holds about 13 ounces of scrub. The scrub has a slight lavender scent with a hint of vanilla. It really isn’t an overpowering lavender scent at all which is great for those sensitive to strong fragrances. The sugar scrub is very gritty and oily in texture. It contains natural soothing and calming ingredients in it such as essential oils, vitamins, minerals, and herbs. However, if your skin is sensitive to essential oils such as lavender you may not want to use this sugar scrub because it might just irritate your skin a bit more. I know I have sensitive skin, but I had a soothing calming nourishing reaction when I used this body care product.
The way I have been using the sugar scrub is by getting into the shower and getting my skin warm, wet, and softened up a bit which usually takes about 10 minutes to do. Then I take several handfuls of the scrub and massage it right into my skin and body in a circular motion for several minutes using my hands and fingers. Usually takes about a good 10 minutes to exfoliate the dead dry skin from my body well. When using the scrub you will notice it is just gritty enough to help exfoliate just the dry dead layer of flaky itchy skin on your body, but enough natural moisturizing oils to hydrate and nourish the new skin underneath so it doesn’t become dry and itchy as well. After I am done exfoliating my skin I rinse off with warm water for about 5 minutes and get out of the shower and pat my skin dry with a towel. Then I take a thick nourishing natural body cream and massage it into my body so my skin stays soft and itch free. My skin usually feels very soft, silky, and well nourished after using this scrub and the lavender vanilla scent usually helps calm my mind enough so I am able to fall asleep quickly at bedtime and stay asleep. However, I should warn you that the oils in this body scrub make the floor of your shower slippery so be careful. If you have to use it in a bath inside or place a bath mat into your shower with slip grips on it so you don’t sleep and fall by accident.
Another way I like to use this sugar scrub is as a moisturizing and exfoliating foot scrub for my dry winter feet. All I do is soak my feet in my footbath for 20 minutes to help soften up the skin on my feet. Then I head over to the bathtub and place my feet in the tub while I am sitting on the edge. Then I take a handful of the scrub and massage a handful at a time into each foot until I feel my feet are well exfoliated and moisturized. After I rinse my feet off and pat them dry and they are silky smooth again.
For those of you suffering from dry itchy skin and trouble falling asleep because of it I hope you can find some relief. I do hope those of you who try the sugar scrub like what it does for you skin and the calming effect it has on your mind. I wish you all the very best with becoming and staying itch free and getting a goodnights worth of sleep.
