The MICROforce Wet/Dry Shaver is an “As Seen On TV” product that offers the “closeness of a blade” and “the convenience of electric.” According to the packaging, the MICROforce shaver is “more powerful than a full size shaver” and has an “independent floating head system” that “follows the contours of your face for a cleaner closer shave.” Since it is a wet/dry shaver, the company says that you can “shave anywhere-anytime-even in the shower.” The MICROforce shaver makes some big promises for a shaver with such a small price tag. At only $10, the MICROforce comes with a very low price tag.
When you get the MICROforce shaver out of its packaging, you’ll be struck by it’s small size. The MICROforce shaver measures only 1 3/4 inches by 3 1/4 inches by 3/4 inches. The MICROforce is a fraction of the size of my full-sized Remington DA-307 Microscreen Shaver or Norelco Micro Action Plus Rotary Shaver. An external examination of the MICROforce shaver reveals that only one feature is missing when compared with full-sized electric shavers. The MICROforce shaver simply has no sideburn trimmer. Instead, the MICROforce shaver offers wet/dry functionality. The MICROforce is packaged with a small pouch, an extra micro foil screen, and a small cleaning brush.
Once loaded with two AAA batteries, the MICROforce electric shaver roars to life and tackles shaving tasks with a lot of power. I was actually quite pleased with the close shave that the MICROforce shaver delivered. The shave was close and the small size of the MICROforce shaver made it easy to maneuver. While I can’t verify the MICROforce claim to be “more powerful than a full sized shaver,” the MICROforce sounded more powerful than my entry-level electric shavers.
The power of the MICROforce is its greatest strength and greatest weakness. Unfortunately, if you shave thoroughly, the MICROforce shaver will run out of juice after four to six shaves. To overcome this problem, you’ll need to invest in rechargeable batteries and a charger or just resign yourself to going through a lot of batteries. Since the MICROforce shaver does use batteries fairly quickly, I can’t recommend the product for daily shaving.
However, the MICROforce shaver is a good shaver for travel and a great shaver for your car or for your desk at work. If you’ve ever been running late and run out without shaving or if you’ve ever noticed that you missed a spot while shaving in the morning, it’s very easy to be able to grab the MICROforce shaver and shave quickly wherever you are. Since it is very small, the MICROforce shaver can fit in your pocket and can be used with discretion.
I did not test the wet/dry functioning of the MICROforce. The battery compartment was protected by a rubber seal to prevent water from entering the shaver. However, since the instructions said that you should clean and dry the shaver after each wet use, I simply did not feel that it would save any time to shower with the MICROforce shaver. All I wanted out of the MICROforce was an inexpensive backup shaver to keep in my desk drawer at work. My MICROforce shaver fits perfectly in a desk drawer along with other necessities like a Tide To Go Pen , a Kiwi Leather Care Kit, extra shoelaces, and an office worker’s emergency supply kit.
Overall, the MICROforce shaver met and exceeded my expectations for a $10 “As Seen On TV” shaver. It’s a great back up to blade shaving or full-sized electric razors.
