Props for Bible Character Costumes: Halloween, Vacation Bible School, All Saints Day

If you are dressing as a Bible character for Halloween, trick-or-treat, All Saints Day or a church harvest or costume party, here are props and symbols for major Biblical figures. I’ve included men and women. Bible costumes may look similar, so using props will help identify who you are. Bible costumes may look similar, so using props will help identify who you are. This Bible character symbols list will make a great party game like ‘Who Am I?’, Bible scavenger hunt or Bible ‘Sword Drill’. This list of Bible characters is taken from the older, more comprehensive Catholic Douay-Rhiems Bible. These characters are in somewhat Biblical chronological order.

Adam and Eve: apple, snake
St. Michael the Archangel: sword
Noah: doves or olive branch
Abraham: camel, tent, walking staff
Issac: ram (caught in hedges, sent by God as sacrifice)
Jacob: ladder
Joseph: coat of many colors
Moses: stone tablets, white hair
Aaron: staff, snakes
Joshua: trumpet
Rahab: red rope (Rahab was the prostitute that aided Joshua and Caleb in their escape; the Bible says it (her act of mercy) was credited to her as righteousness’.)
David: shepherd’s staff, lamb, harp, sling
Goliath of Gath: giant, rock
Jonathon: robe, sword, bow and arrows (Jonathon was the son of King Saul and friend of David)
King Saul: armor
King Solomon: scales of justice, great wealth
Judith ‘cut head’ of Holofernes
Deborah: scales of Justice
Samson: ‘blind eyes’, long hair
Samuel: book
Ezekiel: wheel, dry bones
Nehemiah: weeping prophet
Jeremiah: scroll
Isaiah- baby Jesus, scrolls
Ruth: sheaves of wheat
Susannah: white robe of purity
Baalim: donkey
Jonah: fish
St. Raphael the Archangel: flaming sword
Daniel: lion
Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego- friends of Daniel, cast by King Nebuchadnezzar into fiery furnace: flames

New Testament:

St. Gabriel the Archangel: trumpet
Balthazaar, Melchior, Gaspar: gold, frankincense, myrrh
St. Joseph: baby Jesus, carpenter tools
Mary, Mother of God: Baby Jesus, rose, pierced heart
St. Simeon: Baby Jesus
St. John the Baptist: shell
St Peter: large ring of keys, fishing pole, fishing net
St. John the Evangel- cross, scrolls of Revelation
Lydia: purple costume (seller of purple)
St. Paul: covered eyes, or large needle and thead (tentmaker)
Zacchias: money bags
St. Matthew: money bags
St. Luke the physician: red cross
woman at the well: water jug or urn
Lazarus: grave clothes
St. Mary and Martha: one carrying household implements, the other nothing. This might be a good twins costume.
Mary Magadelene: long hair, jar (precious ointment)
Jarius: child (his daughter was healed by Jesus)
St. Dismas (the good thief whom Jesus told would be with him that day in Paradise) cross, bird of paradise
Roman Centurian: (who loved Jesus) sword, Roman gladiator style costume
St. Veronica: cloth with image of Jesus
St. Stephen: rocks
