Now that you’ve scooped out the insides of your pumpkin what are you going to do with all that pumpkin string?
Don’t throw it away. With dried pumpkin string you can have Halloween Sand. Halloween Sand isn’t typical sand for it’s a festive fall product of the season. Instead of grains you’ll have strings and pieces of broken strings.
Once you’ve scooped the strings from your pumpkin separate and spread them out on a pan or newspaper and let them dry. When they are dry sprinkle them around your Halloween Décor but don’t sprinkle them around anything that gets hot like lights. Sit them around Décor that isn’t electrical. Since the strings are thin and somewhat brittle they could catch fire. Preferably the strings should be put outside. You can leave them where you put them because they will break down since they are organic or something will eat them. You can put them inside but place them in a bowl or something you can pick up instead of lying them on the floor.
For another unusual look you can hang individual or multiple strings on low hanging limbs, bushes and shrubs.
Pumpkin string can be eaten. Separate and spread them on a “cookie sheet” or other baking pan that is lightly greased with oil or shortening and bake them until they are crisp. If they do not crisp up in the oven you can fry them. They are similar to fried noodles. Season the pumpkin string with your favorite spice before you cook them or after while they are still hot. Cinnamon is a tasty spice for pumpkin string or you may enjoy salt and pepper.
Pumpkin string will make yummy Spaghetti. Cook the pumpkin string in water the same as you would if you were cooking Spaghetti. When the strings are done, allow about the same cook time for Spaghetti put them in a bowl, season and eat. You can even twirl these lip-smacking strings around your fork or spoon. Use Tomato Sauce or Spaghetti Sauce if you like. The old standby salt and pepper may be all you desire to taste.
For another twist on the Pumpkin String Spaghetti throw in Pumpkin Seed. Scatter Pumpkin Seed on top of the Spaghetti or mix the seed throughout the Spaghetti. You can sit a bowl of the Pumpkin Seed next to the bowl of Spaghetti. The Pumpkin Seed can be raw, baked or seasoned.
