Ready for bonfires, hayrides and pumpkin picking? Here are some creative and affordable ideas to bring the outdoors in and make a beautiful pumpkin tablescape for your family to gather around!
A pumpkin “flower vase” makes a great addition to your Halloween or Thanksgiving table! To begin, find a great-looking medium-sized pumpkin. Give it a quick rinse and pat dry. Carefully cut off the top and hollow out the inside. You can find great pumpkin carving tool kits at your local store. Take a serrated knife and carefully cut a flat slice off the bottom to keep the pumpkin from toppling over. Next, take your favorite fall flowers and place inside. Add warm water plus an aspirin and sugar or lemon-lime soda to “feed” and help prolong the life of your flowers. Change the water daily. You can place your pumpkin “vase” on a runner that coordinates with your fall theme or you can place it on a mirror slightly larger than your pumpkin for added appeal!
Try pumpkin candle holders to make your table extra special! Begin with one or more small to medium-sized pumpkins for this idea. Follow the instructions for cutting a slice off the bottom to keep it from wobbling. Choose your favorite flameless candle. Carefully cut a hole in the top of the center of the pumpkin slightly smaller than the bottom of your candle. Place the candle inside the hole and push down until firmly in place. Make sure your pumpkin candles are stable and will not topple over. Would you like to try some pumpkins in your fireplace? Your pumpkin flameless candle holders can also make a great “faux” fire. Place several of your pumpkin candle holders in the fireplace for a cozy, romantic feel.
You can also use small pumpkins as place cards for your festive table! Remember to take a slice off the bottom for stability. Instead of hollowing out the inside, carefully make a cut across the top with a serrated knife and insert your name card in the “slot.” You can also cut your place cards in the shapes of leaves for a special touch!
Gather your family around and enjoy your festive, fall pumpkin table together!
