Fall is a wonderful time of the year to see all the beautiful colors that come with this spectacular season. Not only are the colors on the falling leaves and trees, but they are in our clothing and accessories, too. This simple craft will teach you how to make your very own festive fall hair clips in any beautiful color you choose.
To make this quick and easy craft, I used the following supplies: (See above photos for supplies and finished product)
2- 1 ¼ inch metal hair clips
2- 7 inch strips of fall inspired ribbon
2 orange silk flowers
Elmer’s School Glue
Hot glue gun/sticks
First, take a strip of ribbon and tie it into a nice little bow. The wingspan of the bow should be the same size as your flower, roughly 2 inches. Leave the ends of the bow to dangle for now. Repeat with the second strip of ribbon.
Next, take your 2-3 inch diameter silk flowers and take them apart. Separate out the layers of the flowers until you have two ‘centers’ that you like the best. Take your school glue and apply a generous amount to the back of each new bow and adhere it to the center of each flower. Set aside to dry. (Approximately 15-30 minutes.)
The final step is to take your hot glue and drop a dab of glue on the wide end of the hair clip. Take your flower/bow and firmly place it on the hot glue dab. Press in place until the glue dries, but do not burn your fingers. The glue should spread around the wide end of the clip and secure it in place. Keep in mind which way the clip is facing so when you put it in your hair, it is not upside down. (I did that and had to start again.)
When each clip is dry, test it out on your hair. Do you like the longer ribbon hanging below the flower, or, as in the above photo, like it short? I preferred mine short. These little clips are nice and tight and do not slide, even in straight hair. I put my little clips in my daughter’s hair and she loved it.
This project is great for any age and any skill level and makes a great present for any time of the year. You can take this craft and make any color flower/bow clip you like, for any season. If you are helping small children, use extra caution with the hot glue. Enjoy!
