The Rally To Restore Sanity schedule will begin at noon today. However, the Rally To Restore Sanity schedule won’t have its headliners appear for another hour after that. The gathering crowd at the Washington Mall is here for Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert, as their sanity vs fear battle reaches a climax. From noon to at least 3 pm est, that battle will be waged in various ways, with help from some friends. But although much of the Rally To Restore Sanity schedule was spoiled days ago, there’s still a lot of questions to be answered.
Warning: Rally spoilers follow
The Christian Science Monitor got a hold of the scheduled events, after Stewart and Colbert finally got their permit. According to the permit, Stewart isn’t due to come on stage until 1:05 pm, with Colbert crashing the party at 1:20 pm.
Before then, the Rally To Restore Sanity schedule will start with a performance by the Roots, as they defect from fellow late night host Jimmy Fallon for a day. At 12:40 pm, an unnamed comedian will warm up the crowd for 17 minutes, before the real show begins.
The national anthem will be performed at 1 pm, after a video introduction to the show. Stewart will then finally emerge to begin spreading sanity, although he has only 15 minutes before Colbert keeps fear alive. Soon after, readings from Don Novello and Sam Waterston will be held, along with performances from Jeff Tweedy and Mavis Staple.
Stewart and Colbert will come back on between 1:50 and 2 pm, before the last hour of the Rally To Restore Sanity schedule begins. This section has more question marks, as Sheryl Crow is set to perform, but speakers and guests were still said to be lined up when the permit was leaked. But at 2:40, there will be a pre-taped awards show parody, as Stewart and Colbert give out the “Sanity and Fear Awards”
For now, the rally is set to end by 3 pm. But whenever the end comes, Stewart and Colbert will give out final statements for their side, to close out the event. At that point, the sanity-fear battle will finally be decided, before the winner defends their title on Election Night.
Although much of the Rally To Restore Sanity schedule has been leaked, there’s still a lot of mystery over what will happen. No one knows how comedy and politics will mix together, whether they will at all, or what satirical barbs Stewart and Colbert have in store. This is the biggest test yet of their power, and they will be under a big microscope after all this hype.
Comedic and political followers will be tuning in to see how this goes, as they have had weeks to imagine how this would go. But today, the schedule for the Rally To Restore Sanity And/Or Fear will answer those questions, starting at noon est. Those who can’t judge in person can watch feeds on C-SPAN and Comedy Central.
