As I am ending my day, October 31, 2010, also called in the world by the name Halloween, I am reading through Psalm 31 and thinking about us…His children…living in this world. As we know we are to be in the world but not OF the world (John 17:14-16) and yet it is so easy to fall into the snare of the enemy. Don’t you find the same thing in your life?
Read these verses along with me:
3 For You are my rock and my fortress, therefore for Your name’s sake, lead me and guide me.
4 Pull me out of the net which they have secretly laid for me, for You are my strength.
5 Into Your hand I commit my spirit; You have redeemed me, O Lord God of Truth.
David, when in the Spirit, penned this Psalm, he was writing of the fortress that the Lord is when we are in and/or face adversity in our lives. He first opens up and asks the Lord to lead him and guide him. We all need to make this petition of the Lord daily don’t we? It is so easy to get up on Monday morning, rushing to get washed, dressed, choke down some body fuel, grab a cup of joe and hit the road on our way to work. As we are headed to work our minds are filled with things from the weekend, fatigue, concerns, what we need to accomplish at work etc. How about we slow down and simply ask God to lead us and guide us today? We know He hears…and if we know He hears us…we also know that this is His will for us because He shares it with us numerous times in the Scriptures…so then we can rest on 1 John 5:14-15 right? What does 1 John tell us:
14Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. 15And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.
So we not only need to ask but we can be assured that He will lead us and guide us each day. So…ask Him!
David then goes on to ask the Lord to pull him out of the net “they” have secretly laid for him. Who are “they”. His enemies. They are our enemies too! The adversary and his fellow workers in this world. Notice how David asks to be pulled out which means he has already fallen in and been captured. He knows there is only ONE who can pull him out and that is his God! Do you believe God can pull you out of whatever net, sin or snare you are caught in at the moment? Yes you say! So why are you still in the NET? Why are you captured and in need of someone to still pull you out? Ask Him! He hears and when we ask things according to His will, He will do it! 1 John 5 tells us that does it not? So if we don’t believe it we make God out to be a liar don’t we?
Our enemy is craft isn’t he? David says that “they” secretly laid out the net. Where is the enemy placing the net for you? At your workplace? When alone? When on the Internet? Is it on your TV? Since our enemy is craft we need to be looking ahead and considering the paths we tread down. We need to look for signs that the enemy has tampered with the landscape or placed some well hidden nets. Will we avoid them all? No, we will not, but we do know we can ask our God to pull us out of the net just as David did! What a promise! However, we also have the responsibility of being aware, staying away from potential areas where nets could be hidden easily and looking for the evidence of net laying and hiding. Most of us know where the best place for the enemy to lay the net or trap..we need to avoid those places.
Until my next random though…may God richly bless you my brethren and fellow sojourners on this earth.
