Many times I hear people say, “I need new furniture in the worst way.” Most of the time, it is not that there is anything wrong with the furniture, it is simply that people get sick of the same old furniture. Taking this old furniture and re-purposing it may be just what the doctor ordered to take your room from boring to bold.
Side tables get a lot of use in a home and can get beat up pretty badly in a relatively short amount of time. However, these tables are typically built to last and can act as very useful stools. Simply take a saw and cat an equal amount off of each leg to create a foot height stool. Put a seat pillow on the top for some added character and paint or stain the surface to bring it back to life. The storage of the drawers and the convienence of extra seating will create conversation in the room, many of whom will sit down without noticing that the stools are actually tables.
You could also create one coffee table with two side tables by cutting the legs as before, and adding a pre-glued piece of wood for the table top. Attach the side tables to the table top with wood glue and a few screws. Sand and stain or paint the table to match everything and you now have a brand new coffee table.
You may love the comfort of your old chair, but the style is not saying anything good and is an eyesore in the room. Remove the back of the chair and recover it with some new fabric and possibly some extra padding, to create an elegant bench seat. All this requires is a hammer, a staple gun, and a scissors.
Box springs are heavy and awkward, which makes them perfect for a yard grader. If you are working on replanting your lawn and want top get rid of the rough sports, cut the fabric off of the box spring, wrap a chain around the front frame, and drag it behind a lawn tractor. The springs will suspend on top of the ground while portions of them rip up the uneven parts of the lawn. This is a super cheap way to take care of your lawns uneven portions and a lot of fun also.
Re-purposing furniture can be a fun way to add some pizazz back into your home and give you fun and simple projects to undertake.
