Reality is a quantitative, not qualitative, phenomenon. That is, it is nothing more than a position, one infinitely reducible point, which is the intersection of all 4 (3 spacial, plus the 1 temporal) dimensions. Time is but the measure of change, the quantification of an amount of action, of moving, of doing, of *being* – of LIVING – that happens in a particular space. But, in order for life to be – change must be. And in order for change to be, a phenomenon of motion must occur. Time is change’s “space”. I mean, do we “unrun” a mile by running back to where we started?? Exactly. You haven’t UNDONE the exertion, the work. You’ve done twice as much. Therefore, change, alas time, cannot be undone, reversed.
It cannot be “travelled”.
Well, okay – “time” – as in, one of the 3 components in the equation that explains and/or measures work (the “d.i.r.t.” formula – Distance is Rate x Time) is “travelled”, in that we DO – you know, we live and breathe and act and, to stay in the realm of simple physics, we ‘work’ in that we convert fuel to energy we use to move. Now, “movement” as defined as getting from point A to any other point *not* A, that is ‘B’, can occur in myriad directions in space (along the aforementioned 3 dimensions: up/down, forward/backward, left/right, and any combination, variation, intersection and meta-intersection thereof). But to *measure* or to quantify that work, we need that one more dimension – time – the temporal “sphere” or atmostphere or realm – that we use to give birth to the ‘now’ here versus the ‘then’ there. Without recognizing this conceptual “thing” called time – the sequential organization of all these spacial intersections – there would only ever be now. And now! And NOW! Oy – talk about A.D.D.!!
Geez – what a mouthful! All that to explain what is otherwise explained by that temporal concept. “Time” sure saves us a lot of time, doesn’t it?
And our reality is but one spot on that ray, that continuum. We are always changing. To stop changing is, by *definition*, to stop living. So – reality is quantitative.
Thus, the difference between reality and delusion, between “the real world” and “fantasy” is but one of change – of this intersection of these spacial continua ALONG the temporal one – and of the intersection OF these points – the “meta-intersection”, if you will.
To be, colloquially or by some deviation from the standard norm, “out there” is every bit as true as is falling more toward the middle of the Bell curve.
None of us has the patent on what is “real”.
Everything – EVERYTHING – physically, culturally, racially, biologically, sexually, asexually, in the plant, animal, or mineral kingsoms, and in the nontangible “stuff” often alive only by our language to communicate about and acknowledge it – every *thing* that every was or ever occurred, is the result of an intersection, a position, and the various sequences and combinations that occur thereof and therein.
Merely that a particular intersection, meta-intersection, combination and/or sequence (all inclusive OF each other! – that is, sequence of combinations, combination of intersections, sequence of intersections, intersection of combinations…et cetera) – hasn’t occurred, does not mean that it cannot or will not happen. The possibility is indeed “out there”.
One’s person’s “here” is another person’s “there” – by definition! Reality is right here.
And it is indeed…out THERE. If we wait long enough, or dig into history (the infinitely overwhelming majority of which precedes our ability to “search” as it existed LLLLLONG before we did) everything “strange” or “crazy” or “abnormal” once was or will be. And thus, by its existence, it ceases to be unreal.
It’s only a matter of… …time.
