There are many reasons to start a hunting club and I will go over them here. If you have been considering joining or starting a hunting club then this article may be of use to you. I strongly advise consulting an attorney before starting a hunting club. He or she can advise you on the legalities and draw up a contract for your hunting club members.
A great reason to start your own hunting club is to find a great place to hunt that isn’t overcrowded and thus dangerous. Speaking of safety you should require your hunting club members to take a NRA hunter/gun safety course. Your contract should state that anyone doing something dangerous with a gun on club land can be dismissed from the club with no refund.
But as you can see here it is often times difficult to find a great place to deer hunt. If you start your own hunting club, you and your members can lease/buy some great hunting habitat. And since you will extensively scout the club’s land, your members will know where the deer are.
After your hunting club has some land then you can set it up and manage it the way you think it should be. The club members can set the food plots and do the other things involved in managing a deer herd, the way you all want it done. I believe this is better than joining an established club that just doesn’t quite do things the way you would like.
A good reason to start your own deer hunting club is to be able to pick the members. Nothing is worse than joining a hunting club to find out they are all jerks or at least have their “old boy” established hierarchy and mistreat or ignore new members.
With a hunting club you start yourself, you can set community service standards if you like. Perhaps you could donate meat from your hunting to feed the hungry. You may also want to get involved with other charities. Giving money or time to a good cause can shed a good light on hunting in these times of anti hunting bias around the country.
A good reason to start a hunting club when the economy is down, is the cheap land prices. You can often get deals on land that otherwise may not even be up for lease, if the landowner needs some extra money. Also with your own hunting club you and your members can entertain clients there if that is a help to your business.
