“How I Met Your Mother,” also known to fans as “HIMYM,” airs every Monday night at 8 p.m. on CBS. For those of you who missed the most recent episode, here is a recap.
Ted Mosby and the gang attend a black tie event at the Natural History Museum. Once they arrive at the museum, Barney tells everyone of when he was six and he destroyed the Natural History Museum and took down the blue whale that hung from the ceiling. Robin does not believe his story, and Barney ends up, with his typical unasked for enthusiasm, “accepting” the challenge of not touching anything at the Museum. Robin joins him in the challenge, and the two go on a touching spree-they put their hands on lions, turtles, and more.
Meanwhile, Marshall breaks the news to Lily that he has been offered a five-year contract at the evil Goliath Bank. Lily is upset that Marshall does not plan to eventually quit his job and save the world through environmental law, and she wonders what happened to her husband.
Ted spots Zoey from across the room, and he heads over to pester her. She has been a thorn in his side ever since they met; she has been protesting in front of The Arcadia, a historical building Ted has been hired by GNB to tear down the building and design something new.
He asks Zoey mockingly, “So what are we protesting tonight? Rising cost of jet fuel? The government’s oppressive top hat and manacle tax?”
And to his great surprise, Zoey turns around and introduces Ted to her rich and sophisticated husband, who goes by the nickname he gave himself, The Captain.
The rest of the episode focuses on these three storylines. Marshall ends up explaining to Lily that he wants to make a lot of money to spoil her and their future children, and she comes to accept his choice.
Robin and Barney get caught touching everything in the museum, and Robin learns from the security guard that Barney’s story about destroying the museum when he was six was true. And then, like all good HIMYM episodes, a twist is introduced. Barney finds out that the man he thought was his uncle, the man who took him to the museum when he was six, is actually his father. In shock, he decides he wants to keep this news a secret.
Ted spends his time with Zoey. She tricks him into calling his GNB bosses “a bunch of wieners and gonads” on tape, and even though he is angry and thinks she is just a bored housewife, he turns down The Captain’s offer to erase the tape and decides all she was doing was standing up for a cause she believed in. Zoey overhears their conversation, and while dancing with Ted later, she tells him she erased the tape. The two share a tense moment, and then the scene ends.
And to end the episode, because HIMYM hasn’t alluded to future plans in the past few episodes, was a hint of what is yet to come. It’s clear that Marshall will not always work for GNB, but according to Bob Saget, “that’s another story.” Remembering the goat story, it may be a while until we find out what happens.
