When you don’t mind having your oven on or you need a special dish to bring to a potluck, au gratin potatoes are perfect.
This recipe serves 4 hungry adults and can easily be doubled to serve a crowd.
5 medium potatoes, washed well. (any kind of potatoes will work well, even a combination of kinds)
1 can cheddar cheese soup
1 soup can full milk (lowfat, skim or regular)
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1 cup shredded monterey jack cheese
2 pieces dry bread
2 tablespoons butter
What you will need:
A medium saucepan, a casserole dish and foil to cover
Step 1- Cut potatoes lengthwise and then cut each half into thin slices.
Step 2- As you cut the potatoes, lay them in the casserole dish.
Step 3- Put cheddar cheese soup, milk and cheese into the saucepan and heat over a low flame, stirring so it doesn’t burn. When cheese is melted, remove the pot from the fire.
Step 4- Pour the cheese sauce over the potatoes. Stir so all the potatoes get coated.
Step 5- Melt butter in a small dish in the microwave.
Step 6- Crumble the bread into the dish containing the melted butter.
Step 7- Mix the bread with the butter to coat. Crumble the mixture over the potatoes.
Step 8- Bake in a preheated 375 degree oven for 50 minutes covered. Remove the cover and allow to bake for about 10 more minutes in order to brown the breadcrumbs.
Delicious with beef, chicken, pork, turkey or seafood.
