It was an awful thing to hear that a man was stabbed Sunday due to a dispute over the Yankees and the Red Sox.
Perhaps, it is time for fans of each to take a step back.
It is great to be a fan of either. What is wrong, is to say negative things about the other team. Be a fan not a hater.
This year the Yankees are in the playoffs. Red Sox fans should just let it be. And Yankee fans should not rub it in. Next year it may be Red Sox fans watching the playoffs and the Yankees sitting on the bench.
This rivalry is the only time in many people’s lives that they wish to see their sibling, best friend or neighbor suffer. Does that sound like a good thing to you?
Is it right to want to see someone you love hurt because they like a different sports team than you? Right off the bat most people can tell how ridiculous it sounds.
Yet, fans of these teams for some reason don’t get it and continue to do it over and over again.
Everyone routes for a team. There is nothing wrong with that. But, hurting someone else because of it must stop.
It is no longer a fun sport activity. It is bullying and a hate crime. It should be treated as one.
What happened on Sunday was inevitable. This baseball rivalry has developed into hatred. It’s not fun anymore.
Frankly, it’s sickening.
It’s time for people to realize it is just baseball and not life or death. Remember, the hurt you feel when the other side wins and rubs it in; don’t return the favor.
Yankee fans should not brag about being in the playoffs. Red Sox fans should not waste their time routing for whoever the Yankees are playing. How many times have you heard “Go Minnesota” this week? How many of these people were Twins fans? How many were Red Sox fans?
Why is this necessary? Is this what you consider fun?
If this is you, stop and think twice. Let it go. Next year, you may just appreciate it if the roles are reversed.
