Reggie Bush injury news is just one more setback. The Reggie Bush injury last night served as the latest bit of bad news, as Bush’s injury will keep him out for six weeks. While the Saints have lost one of their many weapons, Bush has lost a chance to make better headlines on the field than he has off it. After becoming the first Heisman winner to give up the trophy, a good season and another Super Bowl ring were necessary to help wash it out. Yet the Reggie Bush injury has at least set his season back, and provided another obstacle to overcome.
In the fourth quarter of last night’s win over the 49ers, the Saints sent Bush out to give them good field position on a punt return. Instead, he appeared to hurt his right leg, and could not walk out on his own power. After the game, he had to leave on crutches, spawning fears for the worst.
The Reggie Bush injury is being diagnosed as a fractured fibula, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. This will not end his season, although it could cost him 4-6 weeks. Even after he comes back, it could be hard for him to restore his big-play capabilities for a while.
This incident happened six days after Bush went down in infamy by officially forfeiting his Heisman Trophy. Due to allegedly taking benefits at USC, his legendary college career has been tainted, and now the Reggie Bush injury has given his pro career another step back.
Since his USC career ended, Bush has not been the major NFL star he was projected to be. Although the Texans were blasted for taking Mario Williams instead of Bush in the draft, Williams has become an All-Pro while Bush has stalled. However, he does have a Super Bowl ring, and doesn’t have to carry the load by himself.
Despite being a supporting player, the Saints could count on him for the occasional big play. Yet the Reggie Bush injury leaves them without one of their weapons for several weeks. Since the offense hasn’t shown its 2009 dominance thus far, it could become a big problem.
There are still more tests scheduled for today, so the outlook on the Reggie Bush injury could change. If he is able to return this year, it might not be until early November at the earliest. A 4-6 week absence could bring him back for the Saints’ Oct. 31 showdown against Pittsburgh, as the champs hope to still be on track for a repeat by then.
